Is Steemit Replacing Patreon?

in dtube •  7 years ago

As many of you who follow my program know, we've had some major funding issues in 2017 related to both YouTube and Amazon, but also more recently we lost about 10% of our Patrons due to a bungled announcement of a change to Patreon's fee structure. I caller asked about what's going on with Patreon...

The saving grace for 2018 might be...that with the growth of our content on Steemit, the "Patreon problems" may prove irrelevant

I will admit that I sometimes still have my doubts about Steemit as s going concern, but so far it seems to be hanging in there. Time will tell.

Of course it is! It doesn't cost anything to support anyone. We upvote you because we like your content and not because we don't want you to run out of business. Thank you for embracing steemit.

I don't understand, who is paying these dollars? And what do they get in return?

I can help you with that. http://bfy.tw/Fnr3

I was hoping he meant that you can send content creators rewards at 0 cost

I didn’t even know what Patron is)

I'm willing to bet that eventually you will be making more here then on any of those other platforms.

If I took that bet, I'd sort of win either way, right?

LOL

Get ready for the downvote wars from people who think they know how much money your posts should be worth.

Can you downvote though? I was under the impression you cant.

It's also called flagging. It removes money from the post at the same level as an upvote. There is a big battle going on on certain whales downvoting users whom they decide are making too much money on steemit.

Holy shit, a David Pakman that replies to comments? What is this sorcery??

Is this actually David, or am I talking to a Russian troll?

Either way: Zdraveite

Yeah, I'd go for it if I were you.

I hope so Patreon and other social media sites are becoming anti-free speech.

Expect the trend to continue as ISPs in the near future begin taking advantage of the repeal of net neutrality.

They never were free speech. They were pro-money, like all corporations.

@davidpakman I am wondering what place YouTube and DTube have if a complete move to Steemit happens.
There's no denying YouTube is a superior platform, but DTube certainly helps to bring in more exposure and therefore upvotes/steem/usd. I often have trouble watching DTube videos as the technology is not quite up to par with youtube and some videos (such as this one) I am just unable to watch.

What are your thoughts?

I also have some issues with Dtube sometimes. But as far as steemit replacing it and YouTube, dont think that will happen. There will always be people opposed to steemit and i fear it may be the majority that feel that way. So YouTube will always have a place. And some improvements need to be made to Steemit for it to become widely accepted. It can happen though. Everything starts small and works up. But YouTube will always remain superior to dtube. YouTube set the bar high and dtube is not even close

Nice job! I'm reading the tenth article of yours. You just got my witness-vote.

I am also a beginner in steemit,I hope we can work together,I am sure you are a great writer,so you show all your works in this #STEEMIT ,if you like short story, follow me @mindsmania
, Now i am in the process of writing a short story that i will post on the #STEEMIT platform..Thanks for your

Don't change steem with any other currency it is not a gentle step according to me steem has really a great scope in future it will shoot up so think about it

Just started following you! Looking forward to seeing more great posts!

You'll be making more here than on pateron if you can keep up with quality content.

thanks very much for your vote of confidence!

Steemit still seems to be in its infancy. Sure maybe down the line it could replace Patreon, but couldnt it replace Youtube as well? Maybe team up with the Brave team and the BAT coin and revolutionize video monetization.
Who knows what could happen.

There is https://d.tube/. I heard of this site from Steemit.

and dlive

I have never been using any systems which pays out money for content before. I can thus not say which system is more profitable. I would hope however that steemit will be the number one, as this would increase the number of users and content massively.

Cheeky Clickbait tittle eheheheh but that sounds like fun ideas.

What in the hell is this comment? You guys that dont pay attention at all to the posts are the most funny people ever.

It' s a robot. I think these people just keep doing this idiotic stuff because they think it works to get followers and money

I think you are correct @lazycryptoinvest...I agree.

Screw platforms that don't pay you for direct contribution of value. Steemit is a game changer and is the future of social media! Keep bringing the content! :-)

I do kind of miss the racist, homophobic, xenophobic, antisemitic, misogynistic comments from YouTube, though. (Said no one ever)

HAHAH, my thoughts exactly

I would have thought a lot of Patreon users would be better off moving to Steemit. They could make more if their supporters come over too. I keep trying to encourage some of them. You could do with a nice big Steemit button on your site :)

Yeh if they came over and put a years worth of Patreon donations into SP both @davidpakman and themselves would probably be better off

Yep, we're actively promoting Steemit on all of our platforms currently. Website doesn't have anything but the website gets relatively very little traffic

We will know that Steem is replacing Patreon when the cosplayers and amateur porn stars show up. Or maybe they are here already? I never check the nsfw tag.

that's actually super interesting, I never considered that

I don't know about the furries, but the ap's were here early on, didn't make enough money, and mostly split.

That's good to know. Thank you!

Do you ever have interviews with guests on your show? I'm an investor in cryptocurrencies and I'd love to speak with you in terms of doing an appearance as well :) If that's possible. I can definitely point my audience to your content as well. Just now starting to migrate my facebook group members here starting two days ago.

Both are interesting views. I think in long term Steemit will prevail, unless Patreon makes really big changes on their platform. Steemit for me is better to join and understand and has less "hassle" than patreon ;)

Maybe if Patreon changes its name to P tube ;)

Could you explain more about your funding issues with Facebook and YouTube? I find this disturbing that you're experiencing issues with these platforms. We need platforms that allow people to express views, even if we don't always agree with the views.

Well i certainly hope so, glad you made a switch to d.tube for posting aswell :)

Let's remember you can send content creators rewards at 0 cost. That's a major benefit

David I really think your presence on steemit when its still relativley young can give you alot of influence if/when steemit starts reaching a broader audience of internet users I really hope you continue your steemit activity

Yeah right

good post

Yeah

Let's hope you are right. Upvoted and followed 😀

Is there some easy to use payment system that runs on steem that would allow a "subscriber" to contribute money monthly to a person? Something like someone becoming a patron on Patreon. I new to Patreon and Steemit. So far I have one patron at $1 a month. I have made more money on Steemit so far I think. Not sure exactly how to convert the steem to dollars yet.

Steemit offers more already than Patreon could ever but that's only my humble opinion.

will replace fb :))

Patreon is kind of annoying because you allwas have to set ,,rewards,, for each donation wich can be a lot of work! therefore: Steemit wins!!!

I never used Patreon, but I think Steemit is a better choice since there is no membership fee. You have more freedom here.

Very nice article :)

Nice job keep it up

Let's hope you are right.

steemit, dtube, steepshot, eSteem are one of a kind. absolutely, yes.. a game changer, unique in favor of the blogger, vlogger, poster or whatever you call it

I signed up on Patreon as an artist but felt it too confusing to get going. This site is very simple to use which I feel will definitely help once this platform gains more users.

Fantastic !
I love it

good post. boss I want to be a lot of dollars can not help.

I can't see it replacing patreon yet, but as a platform for earning income, it's a great way to earn money just for doing what you do.

Many patreons feel the need to incentivize contributing to such a degree that I see them doing more patreon work than personal work.

If Steemit takes off then it'll be great for creatives who want to better balance personal projects with patreon work.

Steemit is a great way to support independent media. No doubt about that!!!

The hardest part is finding an exchange where you can exchange your Steem for other currency. If we can figure out that hurdle, everything else will fall into place.

Aren't there lots of options, including bittrex, blocktrades, and poloniex?

It all depends on how much you trust the exchange. There's so many scams out there that I treat pretty much everything with trepidation and suspicion. Am I paranoid? Maybe. Will I keep my cryptocurrency safe? Hell yeah!

I've had STEEM stuck on HitBTC for almost a month now.

Great video bro bro. (Chimpanzee noises while flails arms in air)

It was always hard for me to get behind Patreon even though I think it's a great idea, but it's just ANOTHER platform and adds extra work to the whole thing. I'm really digging this D Tube thing and Steemit...

Btw, does D Tube stand for Dick Tube?

Probably not, but a monkey can dream.

I have noticed that writers use both platforms and some get exposure on the Steemit platform but post most of their work on the Patreon platform. I don't think there is a major competition between the two platforms currently.

Patreon is a cool guy and all, but he killed his mother. That's what I heard at least. I could have heard wrong

umm is he talking about that app?

Stop saying Jinga like that, you call yourself a Mexican? Speak better Mexican.
