=======================
Wilmer talks about his recent book Politics Another Perspective: Analysis of Race, War, Ethics and the American Political Landscape in the Age of Obama .
As Churchill once said: "What kind of people do we think we are?" A nation that glorifies its past and doesn't examine its present has no future. Today, when more Americans vote for American Idol then the American presidency, one can easily witness how much the Military/Entertainment/ imprisonment complex has changed our national landscape.
Intense, iconoclastic and fearless in equal measure, Wilmer Leon III, Ph.D. Politics: Another Perspective is a collection of 80 Op Ed's that reveal, in devastating detail, the various issues that have and continue to influence the american geopolitical landscape into the direction that the country is headed.
Leon's journey begins at the epicenter of hell. the inner cities, where the true causes of racism, drug use and violence are revealed, continues with his incisive analysis of the formative influence of slavery on America's very identity: "it was free slave trade labors that enabled the economic foundation of the republic to transition from a feudal system to a capitalistic system" and concludes with Leon's insistence that a moral revolution is needed. Without such a fundamental transformation, America will implode under the trifecta of racism, materialism and militarism.
Just when you thought it's all been said about President Obama's historic victory which signaled a giant leap forward in the American social, political and cultural landscape, Leon's Another Perspective helps readers understand America's racial history and the fierce whitelash that followed. Reactionary politics coupled with Democratic Party and Obama administration's inability to articulate an effective counter narrative and employ effective countermeasures has left America in a political abyss and the breeding ground for the Trump administration that followed..
In the storm of race relations, Leon has always been the peacemaker. While the lens he views the world is that of a political scientist who is African American, Leon's "other" perspective in Another Perspective is his clarification of current events. Most pundits and the people who listen to them look at events through a narrow prism, isolated from a broader historical content. Leon strongly connects the dots between the past and the present. He rightly proclaims that there are no just solutions to problems unless they are understood within an historical context.
Dr. Wilmer Leon doesn't just inspire us, he informs us with his intelligence, authenticity, generosity and compassion. At a time when most people in the public eye still parse their pronouncements with caution and are tightly leashed to high-paid consultants who advise them on how to be "beige", Dr. Leon is a breath of fresh air. When it comes to authenticity, he's the real thing.
Dr. Leon is a Political Scientist whose primary areas of expertise are Black Politics, American Government, and Public Policy. For 11 years he was a Lecturer in the Political Science Department at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He is the Producer/ Host of the nationally broadcast talk radio program "Inside the Issues with Wilmer Leon" on Sirius XM Satellite radio channel 126, a nationally syndicated columnist with the Trice Edney News Wire and a regular political commentator on national and international news programs. has appeared innumerable times on all of the major cable and terrestrial TV news networks and is a frequent guest on national radio networks as well. His constitutional activism has been covered and profiled extensively in the print media including the Associated Press, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and many other national and international newspapers and periodicals.
Dr. Leon earned a BS degree in Political Science from Hampton Institute, a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Howard University.
Wilmer Leon is one of the few Black prophetic voices in the age of Obama. This book confirms this status. Courageous, visionary and consistent!" --Dr. Cornel West
Dr. Wilmer Leon has assembled a collection that asks the right questions about race and democracy. In an era when too many are silenced for fear of rocking the boat of the status quo, Wilmer Leon has signaled his willingness to go out on a limb and speak truth to power. Bravo!--Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Economist and Author Are We Better Off: Race, Obama and Public Policy.
