The fort in Beniaminowo was one of the five planned forts, supposed to close the triangle of the Warsaw Fortress District from the east.
It is also the only one that has survived to our times.
During World War I, Polish officers were interned in barracks at the back of the fort (the so-called swearing crisis). In 1920, the fort was defended by Polish troops. In 1944, after the Red Army occupied the site, the Russians blew up some of the fort's facilities.
