It's sad to see the price crash, but it always is. I expected it, though. It went up like a rocket, and more often than not, this is what happens afterwards.

The crypto market still lives and dies by bitcoin, we have not matured beyond that point yet - even though STEEM has much better technology backing it, and actually has a usecase.

If I were to make a guess, I'd say BTC will rocket pretty soon, but this is not financial advice. I don't know if it will moon the alts along with it, or will FOMO kick in and make people put all of their crypto money into BTC, but if, again, I were to make a guess, I'd say the latter.

STEEM will probably go down to the $2-$3 mark. At least for the short to mid term.

But let's not underestimate the psychological effect of STEEM going up so high. People have now seen that it's possible for STEEM to rise, so of course that will come into play.

Let's see.

A correction often occurs after a sharp rise indeed. I guess my problem with STEEM is that I'm more emotionally involved than with any other coin so it 'hurts a little more' :). And you are right BTC is still king. I do hope you are wrong about STEEM of course but I can't fault it. Markets are markets .Who knows? I do believe STEEM in the long term will go up. Your last argument is the one I share with you. We know it can be done. Let's see!

The weird thing is if we just slowly would have moved up to $4 (where we are now) without that spike it would feel way better.

It's all about perspective.

The biggest downside to crypto correction is that it's hard to hide anywhere when these corrections occur.

You've said it all and it's the truth.
I know it's a general market correction and it has affected a lot of coins too.
let's just wait a little while and everything will bounce back to normal?

How about ordering an astronaut suit? Lol.

great. we do really appreciate your efforts and did vote @blockbrothers as witness.
However, steemit going down has been a hard moment, mostly for i as a new steemians. i did managed to reach 55 steem dollars but then dropped to almost 47. That has been my biggest achievement cause i never used to reach 4 or 5 steem dollars per post.
This is the hardest moment for me but still keeping faith and courage.

Having steemit as part of my life is my joy and wish to grow more and become a whale one day.

we really appreciate your work and will support you in case you need us.

Everything is tanking right now, mainly due to the stuff with Korea. It sucks, but prices can't keep rising at that rate anyway, it becomes really unstable like that. I hope the market finds a bottom soon though, so we it will start slowly rising again. Right now, it isn't fun looking at a red portfolio, but that's just because i have been used to seeing it being green :)

Buying most at or under a dollar and looking at the current price helps me :)

So I'm happy that I mitigated some crypto risk into fiat for the time being.

Same, and has given me the buffer to be able to just carry on with the blogs, curation, community stuff. The price will look after itself, we have an awesome year ahead!

That's the rollercoaster of the crypto world and we have to deal with it. By the way, I've been meaning to ask you @exyle with regard to one of the previous topics about success on Steemit and "the grind", how did you get where you are now on Steemit? Did you have a following on some other social platform and brought them here or was it a pure grind?

No. I never was into social media much. I was into crypto though and then learned about Steemit in July 2016. I started blogging and once I realised I enjoyed it I start doing it every single day. 19 months later here we are. A big part of my SP I also bought in the downtrend last year (I call it the dark ages of Steemit). I got very lucky that that period lasted for a long time. I never had much spare fiat to play around with.

for people like we are not in this noise because we are long term trader for steem and steem will definitely go to 15 or more in 2018, so it does not matter for us, because we have banked upon steem when it was 1.3 and so many positive developments are going on, so we would surely go moon at some point of time.

The recent sell off of steem is either due to profit taking or due to deliberately plotting and creating FUD so that they can buy deeps and push it up again.

I love corrections. It makes you able to buy at a low price, while still maintaining hope that the price can go higher, because it has already been higher. Unless you bought at the top, then corrections suck.

The fundamentals would suggest that there is no good reason for this price fluctuation. Why would Steem follow the others when it's user base is incapable of a massive sell off. What happened to "Supply and Demand"? Does this not apply all of a sudden?

There is a lot of research about this psychological phenomenon. Mostly, we would rather not lose $10 than find $10. So people are most sensitive to perceived loss, rather than gain. So for instance, if you take Person A who has absolutely nothing, give them $20 cash, then take $10 away (so now they're left with $10). Take Person B, and just give them $10.

Person A will be upset and bemoan losing $10
Person B will be jubilating making $10

When in reality, yesterday they both had nothing, today they both have $10 :)
