part thirty six: Gotham City
https://steemit.com/freewritehouse/@felt.buzz/gotham-city-a-five-minute-freewrite-sk7chzmi

I took another sip of wine and waited for the woman to respond.
She looked me in the eye and said, "I am Dark Night."
I spat the wine out as I laughed. "What are you?" I asked, pulling out a tissue from my pocket, careful not to pull the box - the Inbox, apparently - out with it. I wiped my mouth, and then my shirt. "Batman? You on vacation from Gotham City?"
She shook her head. "You know less than I thought, dear boy." She held out her hand and I leaned in to shake it. She moved quickly, so fast I didn't know what happened. I was suddenly on my back on the floor, she had my gun in her hand and a smile on her lips.
"My code name is Dark Night," she said. "I thought your friend Dirk had told you about me." She poked the gun in my face as she reached into my pocket and pulled the small box Dirk had given me out. "Ignorance suits you," she said. "I think it is better if you keep wearing it."
I didn't say anything, just watched her as she looked at the box.
...
Part thirty seven: Halcyon Days

https://steemit.com/freewritehouse/@felt.buzz/halcyon-days-a-five-minute-freewrite-ujxcri26
Dark Night must have spent five minutes, carefully examining the small box. I said nothing, just lay on my back watching her, and the gun - my gun - that was pointed in my face. Eventually, she sighed and dropped the box into her pocket and sat down on my sofa. She picked up the glass of wine and took a sip.
"Can I get up yet?" I asked, from the floor. "I've had a long day and this floor is not as comfortable as it looks."
She nodded and placed the gun on the table in front of her. I picked myself up and sat down on the chair opposite her. She poured another glass of wine and passed it to me.
"There are things you need to know about yourself. You don't seem to be as curious as I expected. You haven't even attempted to get into that box."
I took a sip of wine. I remembered the halcyon days when strange women didn't break into my apartment assault me and point my own gun in my face. I remembered when I wasn't being hired by strange men to sneak into another dimension to kill people with names like Slug, when I wasn't being followed by the Government.
They were boring times.
...

Part thirty eight: window

https://steemit.com/freewritehouse/@felt.buzz/window-a-five-minute-freewrite-pqtazih4

In fact, I thought, they were so boring I had forgotten most of them.
Dark Night reached around the surface and pulled out a laptop. She opened it and put it on the sofa beside her. I could see it booting up, strange strings of letters and numbers that didn't really make sense. This was no normal computer.
"This is no normal computer," Dark Night confirmed. She pulled the box from her pocket and began to poke it. To my surprise, it began to open. A window of light appeared at the centre of it and it began to unfold. Suddenly she held in her hand not a box but a thin stick, unlike any memory stick I had ever seen. But I guessed that was what it was.
Dark Night slid the stick into the side of the laptop and pressed a few keys. The screen went dark.
"Bollocks!" she said and gave it a slap. It made a noise, a sound like a dog makes when you step on its foot by mistake, and then the screen came back on, full of colours and shapes that span around and around until it formed a picture.
...

Part thirty nine: rote https://steemit.com/freewritehouse/@felt.buzz/rote-a-five-minute-freewrite-vmkxidpt

I recognised it of course. I had seen that face looking back from the bathroom mirror more times than I remember shaving.
Me.
Except it wasn't. The image on the computer screen was somehow wrong. It looked almost mechanical.
"This," Dark Night said. "Is you." "Thanks. I kinda got that." "You are an android, my friend. A machine. Not a human."
I blinked. That didn't seem right. I laughed. "I have been accused of not being human before. Have you been talking to Vanessa? Or any of my other ex-girlfriends?"
Dark Night's smile was fixed. "You've been programmed not to remember," she said. "You have learned how to be human. You learned a lot of things by rote. But you are not human. And you are not from this world."
I was starting to become bored with this conversation. "Where is this going Ms Night? It's late, I've had a hard day in the..." I was going to say office, but I figured she knew where I had spent my evening anyway. "Laboratory. And I'd like to go to bed."
...
Part forty: perfect nanny
https://steemit.com/freewritehouse/@felt.buzz/perfect-nanny-a-five-minute-freewrite-t5gdhrwo

"And, when you sleep, do you dream of electric sheep?" Dark Night asked.
I shook my head. "Look. I don't know what you are trying to pull here, but I ain't no machine. I am as human as you."
Dark Night laughed. "That you are, my friend. That you are. Unlike the man you have just been commissioned to kill - a certain Mr Slug - you and I did not come from this dimension. And we are certainly not human." She sat calmly on the sofa, the laptop open, wine glass in her hand. She looked as though she was trying to sell me insurance, not claim that I was an android from a different world. "You and I were raised by a higher consciousness," she said. "The perfect nanny, if you will."
I stood up and marched to the door, opened it and held it. "Can you leave now. I think you are insane."
"You know it to be true," she said. She stood up removed the strange data stick from the laptop and closed the lid. She put the wine down on the coffee table and walked towards me. "I'll go," she said. "But first a kiss." She leaned in quickly before I could react and stuck her lips onto mine. At the same time I felt the data stick make contact with my arse.
...
Part forty: emperor
https://steemit.com/freewritehouse/@felt.buzz/emperor-a-five-minute-freewrite-ytmgfrh3

"What the actual fuck!" I shouted, pushing back at Dark Night. And then my vision went dark. Then fuzzy. And then, as the data stick slid into place I saw the truth.
I was not from this world.
I was not human.
I was from a different reality, a different world, a different time. My name was Emperor v7.77 An advanced android. And I had a mission.
"So my mission is the same as theirs," I breathed. Dark Night released me and smiled.
"Yes," she said. "You need to stop Slug. Kill him, destroy him." I nodded. I realised I had the means to do so, built into me. I had a self destruct option. I had a built-in bomb.
I was a bomb.
"I guess I should be going now," Dark Night said, removing the data stick from my rear end. I felt a strange sensation, a feeling of disappointment and rejection and then I felt as I had always done. Alone and pathetic.
Human.

Part forty two: otter

https://steemit.com/freewritehouse/@felt.buzz/otter-a-five-minute-freewrite-nzk0v4vq

"So," Maria said. "You are not human, you're an android from another world, dimension and time. And not only that you are a walking bomb. Is that right?"
"Yes," I said.
"And you want me to help you, how?"
"You need to help me set the destruct sequence going."
"You can't do it yourself."
"No."
"What do you need me to do?"
"You need to stick your finger up my arse."
"What?"
"It's where the button is to set the bomb."
"I think you are taking the piss."
"I'm not."
Maria looked as though she was going to run away. Then she shook her head. "Graver said there was something about you that wasn't right. Okay, let's do this thing."
We ran back to where Slug was hiding. Maria kissed me goodbye, stuck her finger up my arse and I did what I needed to do to set the bomb off. I opened the door.
The walrus-thing now looked a little bit like an otter, with the slug things still dropping off it.
"You’ve come back to die!" Slug shouted, obviously delighted.
"I have," I said and ran towards him, my arms open wide. He blinked, clearly not expecting this.
He shouted something I couldn't hear as I embraced him and then my world exploded into nothing.
