Yes, you will get curation rewards. They will usually be smaller than 0.01 but the accumulate. Play around with Steem World to learn more about vote strength. 100 Steem Power are a few cents upvote.

Sure: Steem is the cryptocurrency on which everything runs. You can trade it against Bitcoin and co. If you own Steem you want to power it up so it becomes useful to you in form of Steem Power. Having Steem in your wallet doesn't do anything for you. So whether you buy Steem or earn Steem Dollars, the goal is to make it all into Steem Power to grow your account strength.
