Redefining Masculinity - What It Is To Be A Man In 2017

in dtube •  7 years ago

What men are taught to be:

  1. Non emotional
  2. Physically fit and athletic
  3. The provider
  4. Not to feel pain

Any imposed requirements to be a man are harmful to men. Women are brought up with certain ideas of what it is to be a woman too. We need to address all these cultural concepts and redefine what it is to be masculine and "a man".

Well I definitely fail at #1 at times as I have quite a temper and it manifests itself in the form of anger and frustration (traffic, my job, mostly things beyond my control lol). Definitely something I struggle with. You do pose a valid point as the traditional definition of being a man is certainly changing.

#2-3: I fall into these categories for sure. #4: I have a pretty high tolerance for physical pain but nobody should be expected to hide that they're hurting.
