One Yeti's Perspective #49: Building Culture

in dtube •  7 years ago  (edited)

THIS IS A VIDEO^^^^

After a couple of things happened in Stacie D (@freedomtowrite) and I's life, it made me think about culture.

Is our culture formed through small experiences over a long period of time?

Could it be shaped by a strong experience in a short period of time?

As we all continue our journey can we shape our future by molding our culture through positive thoughts and actions daily? We could design a culture of love! Be well!

I think you can change culture over a long period of time by changing daily behavior until the new behavior becomes so-called second nature. However, I find in myself that it is difficult, if not impossible, to permanently change basic personality traits. I am by nature an introvert who has somehow ended up in a career that forces many, many daily interactions with other people. I manage to do that, but my basic introverted traits fight to exert themselves more strongly in my personal life.

Yeah, I wonder. Culture is a funny thing. I think we often confuse other things for culture. We all might have our own personalities, but we may outwardly express our culture more.

It is difficult to tease out all the variables. Culture vs. basic personality traits complicated by the fact that we, as individuals, have free will.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. - Jesus

Great video. Yes I think our surroundings who we hang out with what we listen to all impact our culture greatly.

Great post! Thought provoking. I was just talking to my husband about this the other day. I wonder sometimes how our "gene pool" influences us as well. When I was young I would garden, can, dehydrate foods with my grandmother....as I grew up in the city I still did this...now today, my daughter has chosen to homestead and carry this further...much like my grandmother. Interesting. I do agree with you, a culmination of our experiences good and bad do shape what culture you choose. You know the saying, You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl!

Right! So the idea that there is something deep in us that might make our culture pass down. Thats amazing.

nice video! i come from @bhnproduction

I read a quote a while back that read, "Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself."
-Leo Tolstoy

I realized in some ways I fell into that trap as well. I know the only way to change the world is to change myself. The only way to lead is to lead by example. I agree with you 100% that we can change it into a culture of love by our thoughts and daily actions!

I have had huge changes happen over years, just bit by bit. That was great. But, I want to share that I had jaw dropping changes happen recently in a matter of a couple months. I got out of the military in September 2017. The beginning of the change was stopping all soda drinking. I was addicted to soda and knew that this was effecting my body in negative ways. We have a pretty good clean diet but I was struggling with the soda addiction. I stopped and that was probably the end of Sept. I also stopped drinking beer. I have had one beer and a couple glasses of wine since Sept and don't really care if I ever drink alcohol again. Maybe once in a while?...it doesn't matter to me at all. Not important these days. Yay!!! The physical change is that I lost 21 lbs and my back feels less hurty :)The emotional and spiritual changes have blown me away. I won't go into all that now, but thank you for this. The changes that I have went through have been AWESOME! Thank you for this, it gives me hope for human kind. Have a fun Sunday!

Aaww I am glad that you enjoyed the video. There is always hope. The world is big and full of people, and change cannot come by force. We need to be the example! I am excited about your major changes that you have experienced since September! I woulf even be interested in hearing more about your spiritual changes. Be well!

You're right! Change can not be forced. I will definitely share more at some point about the spiritual changes. Happy Sunday to you guys!
