Guess 6 Classic Grindcore Riffs

in dtube •  5 years ago

Let’s play a game : I’m playing six classic grindcore riffs on my acoustic guitar, and you will try to guess the songs they are from.

For those who couldn’t make it:

Song 1: Napalm Death - Instinct of Survival:
Song 2: Mortician - Zombie Apocalypse
Song 3: Gut - Wound Fuck:
Song 4: Gut - The Taboo Room:
Song 5: Mucupurulent: Zombie Squad 69:
Song 6: ROMPEPROP- swimming in neanderthalers

If I had to choose one riff from this list, I would pick Mortician’s “Zombie Apocalypse”. This is one of the heaviest riffs I have ever heard. It’s very fun to play on acoustic guitar. If you noticed, I am using my thumb to play it instead of the pick, as this gives more of fat, bulky bass. I wish acoustic guitars had a tremolo machine, so I could play it properly using the tremolo lever in the end. I think it worked pretty good, and close to the original by the level of heaviness, even though I didn’t use any distortion and didn’t even equalize anything - just pure acoustic sound.

The next in my preferences would be the two riffs by Gut from their legendary (in pornogrind circles) album “Odour of Torture” released in 1995. Slow, nasty riffs making you nod your head to the simple rhythm.

ROMPEPROP is another crazy and primitively superheavy legendary band from Netherlands. This riff is taken from their album with a beautiful title "Hellcocks Pornflakes". Actually, I’m not even sure if I should include their riff after or before the riffs of Gut in my chart of preferences.

I’ll be honest, before making this video I had known the Zombie Squad 69 as a song by Cock and Ball Torture. Only after looking it up online before uploading the video I discovered that it was actually a cover of the song by Mucupurulent. And I’m playing it in a different manner than in the original - using 16th notes instead of 8th in the end of the phrase. I just like it better this way.

Finally, Napalm Death. The riff from “Instinct of Survival” actually sounds like a regular thrash or death metal riff, but as Napalm Death are officially considered a grindcore band, and I really love this riff, I decided to include it as well.
