The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 7, DTube Video #3

in dtube •  6 years ago  (edited)

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 7:10-13

Today's passage points us to the date when the waters came, that being the seventeenth day of the second month.

Then we see how the waters came. The fountains of the great deep burst, and the windows of heaven opened. This was the first rain ever.

How do we know it had never rained before? Because if it had, there would have been a rainbow seen at some point. No, Genesis one says that God separated the waters above from the waters below. The heavy canopy of cloud cover that greatly increased our life spans was now falling upon the earth, and the sun would soon be visible to bake our skin and age us.

The sun would also show its light, producing the first rainbow and His promise.

In the video, I point out all markings around the Hebrew letters. Some are vowels, others tell us how to pronounce the consonant (v or b - p or f - s or sh), still others tell us how the word should be chanted in the assembly. As usual, I have the vowel pointings highlighted in yellow, but today I give you an idea what the other markings mean and to what extent they can be ignored.

Great video. This may actually made to be more interested in learning the herbew langauge deep

I never knew the markings can help us note the symbols to ignore and the ones to use. So the marking on that letter changes the pronounciation to "sh" wow, in the begining, middle or end? Wow it's amazing every detail, understanding genesis 7, awesome video for today again, thanks for bringing it.

Cantillation marks are there for those who would chant as done in traditional temple reading. Shin has a dot over the right branch, Sin over the left. All markings have a use, but not so much for basic reading practice.
Thanks for your comment.

Wow okay, for chanting? Thanks for pointing it out to me and for clarifications, today's teaching was amazing

Hi,

Regardless of my comments, you still curate spammers. All these accounts underneath in your comment section here are spam accounts and have mack-bot flags on them. You have curated them anyway.

I used this guy's posts to confirm Kennybobs spam acounts and there were like 10 of them he was upvoting, and that is just from one person. Some of these people don't want to believe that like 90 percent of their comments are fake. Thanks for fighting comment spam.

Yes, unfortunately they have been 80-90% spammy accounts depending on which user they spammed (xpilar, hebrew, r2cornell and many other). I have recently done major cleaning personally. Got rid of hundreds of these accounts. Now their posts look clean.
What's interesting is that they don't receive many comments now :-)
