Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well and the weekend will treat you nicely.
I just posting this video to make people aware of the proposed changes with Steem in HF-21.
There are valid points to both sides of the argument, time will be the judge. But why cant we test this before hand and see the results.
Once SMT's or even with Steem Engine tokens. This is point of rewards in Steem is redundant, as each DApp will distribute it's native token their own ways. Value will be added to Steem via the DApps and not with Steemit. We need more Steem monsters, Actifits, Dtubes, Next Colony, Clean planet etc etc.
Why are we obsessed that Steemit as the platform to change everything. I see far more value in the greater ecosystem of Steem. Why are we obsessed in becoming a social media site or content related. Dare I say it.. Like minds. What I am trying to say is that we/Steem, are fare more than this.
Keep the discussion flowing,

Same as everywhere else in life unfortunately.

If it's redundant then why care either way, why not be down for whatever, even completely removing rewards, after all, by your own logic, it should be done by communities/steem-engine/smt's..
It would be nice to test the changes, but what are we testing? How can you test retention rates, engagement or curation? You can't test user behavior unless you run a very good simulation, and even then, simply because it's a known test it would not give us meaningful results because people could be jackasses and act a certain way and even if they don't the fact that they are being "tested" is enough IMO to make the behavior tests meaningless.

Fair enough, though I see Steem as the infrastructure that all these Dapps work on top of. This adds value to Steem. I would love to keep on building up more, but it seems that this may not happen in the future.
Testing wouldn't resolve everything, but the main premise of change is to review the rewards distribution. Where the author actually gets more. Show me this and I will be more at ease.

We can't test for that because of what I mentioned. If you can outline exactly how such a test would be a good indicator of behavior in the real world then I'm all ears, but as far as I'm concerned that's not realistic what so ever.
Let's go back to the "why change the distribution of rewards on the main layer". Because obviously that is what Steem is, ultimately it's a game of distributing an inflatory pool of newly minted tokens and most participants are not pleased with the wanton and dare I say rampant cheating. Yes you can build all kinds of "addons" and implement different "mods" in terms of games, you can apply different rules, change parameters but none of that will affect what is the main game, and so it's redundant in that regard. Even if most players prefer the modified version the state it is based on will make a huge difference to their niche. The only way to avoid that is to cut the branch of and hope it roots and becomes it's own tree, but as long as the tree is not doing great, fidgeting with it's branches is an effort in futility.
