DTube Hit #1 On Hacker News!

Yesterday I learned from a Steemit post by @emrebeyler that on Wednesday DTube made it to the #1 spot on Hacker News!

Here’s the link: Dtube – A decentralized video platform using STEEM and IPFS.

If you’re not familiar with it, Hacker News is a news aggregator similar to Reddit, but with a focus on technology. I had a hard time finding specific numbers, but here’s a thread from 2015 that says the site gets roughly 2.6 million views a day, 300,000 daily unique users, and 3 to 3.5 million monthly unique users. The site is run by Y Combinator, which is a tech incubator in the U.S. that has invested in companies like Dropbox, Airbnb, and Coinbase.

It’s definitely worth checking out the DTube thread on Hacker News if you’d like to read responses from a group of developers that like to pick every new piece of technology apart. 😀 @heimindanger (creator of DTube) responded to a lot of comments and it gives a window into the way the site works and its development timeline. For example, he mentions that the site will be going open source in the future.

There’s definitely a mixture of responses, ranging from excitement to confusion to ridicule, but it’s interesting to see how people respond who haven’t joined the platform yet. I’d be really curious to see what kind of traffic spike DTube got because of this.

Steemit was on Hacker News four months ago after an article about it was printed in Wired. In addition to Hacker News, Steemit was mentioned on the Joe Rogan podcast a couple weeks ago.

Will be interesting to see how things develop this year!

Thanks for watching 😀

I am a new steemian. I haven't used @dtube and I intend doing so. I am a guitarist who specialize in playing Nigeria highlife. Since YouTube updated their monetization policy, it affected my lean channel and I got discouraged from posting new content on there. Hopefully, @dtube will gain more popularity and be a better alternative for the lean guys like us.

You should get onto DTube straight away. Even better, try DSound. They are rewarding original artists like yourself with big votes right now.

Good luck with your videos on DTube! 😀

Thanks.

This together with the mention on Joe Rogan's podcast will definitely have a really good effect on the number of users. Hopefully a few of them will stick around and not get discouraged.

Yeah, pretty cool to see Steem get mentioned on such big sites!

Thanks for watching! 🙂

Glad to know that our community on Dtube is growing, i pray the positivity on the platform stays that way

Yeah, honestly the positivity here is one of the reasons why I've felt more comfortable posting videos. I haven't posted a video on YouTube yet and part of it is because of the really awful comments that so many YouTubers have to deal with.

Thanks for watching! 🙂

thanks for sharing the news...

Thanks for watching!

The reputation and popularity of Steemit is growing and getting bigger bybthe day all thanks to it's hard working Steemit Community.

thank you very much for your kind information

Thanks for watching!

really i like your post very much and thanks for sharing this video.

It promoting dtude on youtube channel. Clever.

lovly brother and thanks for this video....

Wow that's great news :)

Yeah very cool!

Thanks for this video, we need to spread DTube and move content creators from the broken YT to here!

Great video @jeffbernst, I read this news on @emrebeyler blog a few days ago, but I like the way that you present it in a form of video.

Hacker news is a great website, Where most of the authors shared their landing page link (while writing a book for promotion) for getting huge traffic and subscribers from there. Basically, they convert that subcribers into customers letter on by email marketing.

Glad to see the DTube success on Hacker news, Obviously DTube got lots of traffic from there.

keep it up Jeff!

Thanks @mslifesteem! 😀

I'm also new to Steemit and have explored DMania a little and have been thinking of what sort of content strategy I'd want to approach DTube with. I think right now especially people are starting to look for alternatives to some of the more popular platforms. That combined with the growing popularity of and familiarity with cryptocurrency will cause more people to explore the Steem network. If I had to guess, I would say overall there's going to continue to be a greater desire to diversify content across multiple platforms going forward.

Yeah I agree. I would be really surprised if we don't see a big influx of new users this year.

Thanks for watching!

This is pretty exciting. I think Dtube is making leaps into the right direction technologically.. Looking forward to using it more and I'm actually getting more traffic than I did on YouTube even though i'm a really small guy in the video world..

Congrats! Yeah I think DTube is a great opportunity for new creators.

Thanks for watching! 😀

My pleasure Mr @jeffbernst..

Thanks for sharing!! looking ahead for more videos in your channel. I am surprised to see that Dtube is gaining so much popularity over time and also helping and encouraging content creators around the globe.

Thanks for watching :D
