In this Aria Liù faces the Queen Turandot who wants to kill the prince (son of Timur) Liù secretly loves the prince who only smiled at him one day, After facing Turandot, Liù sticks a knife to end his life. After G. Puccini wrote this part of the opera, just after Liù's death, he died of tuberculosis, many of his scores retain the blood marks that caused him such a disease. These remain sealed in what was his home until the day of his death.
