DTUBE EXCLUSIVE | Is VIRTUAL REALITY the Future?

in dtube •  7 years ago

Hey everyone!

In this DTube Exclusive video, I want to talk to you all about virtual reality and the effect it will have on our futures!

A few days ago I watched Ready Player One with my brother, and now I've been re-reading the book for the second time as well. I first read it a couple years ago and I thought it was pretty good! I think I'm enjoying it even more my second time through.

Anyways, this book has really gotten me thinking about VR, and I think it's a crazy accurate prediction on what VR is going to be like in the future. And I don't think the time is crazy far off when people will start using VR in their daily lives.

Imagine waking up and getting ready for the day, and then logging into your VR account to go to work. For people who work at call centers, office jobs and similar positions, what would be the difference between physically going there, or just logging in virtually and doing all their work from home?

Imagine wanting to visit Iceland or the Himalayas. Obviously it would be much cooler to go in person, but much more affordable to visit virtually. I think 360 video is going to play a big part in this. If you take 360 video of an entire city, or a certain part of the world, it doesn't seem like it would be too extremely hard to import it into a virtual reality software and allow people to experience these locations as a virtual avatar.

It doesn't seem that unrealistic to me! I really think this is the sort of things we will be experiencing in the future, and the not-so-distant future to boot! I can't wait to play an amazing MMO game like World of Warcraft in virtual reality for the first time. It would be so amazing to visit fantasy worlds and level up a character and get cool items, slay monsters and clear dungeons. Or ride in a space ship exploring the galaxy and distant worlds! SO COOL!! :D

What do you guys at @dtube think about VR? I think it's going to be HUGE!

Let me know what your thoughts are on this in the comments down below. I'd love to discuss all the possibilities more in depth!

Hope you all enjoyed this discussion and also have a great day!

Take care,
Jordan

I think that VR will evolve into a sub-culture of people who engage in a virtual world daily, with others that they become familiar with and become real friends in the virtual environment. After a while, I predict that many people will spend more time inside their preferred virtual world, than in the real world. I see this then turning into a situation where people start coming down with new mental problems, in which they won't be able to differentiate what's real and what's not, nor tolerate the real world anymore and will feel lost and alone when outside their preferred virtual world.

It could also prove to be the final blow to individual freedom. The potential for brainwashing by less than honorable people would likely make life in actual reality a burden to those who have been washed. VR could be a good thing, but with all of the jokers out there who feel they have the right to control everyone else, it won't be used for good things, IMO.

I think your predictions definitely have truth in them for sure! The mental problems thing sounds completely true. It's all about balance! In everything. A daily limitation would be important. Like 4 hours max and then you have to get out and spend time reading or outdoors and interacting with humans in real life.

Ugh, I don't even want to consider a brainwashing concept, though I acknowledge the possibilities you mention. Hopefully whatever VR games I get into would be made my morally sound individuals that are just trying to promote a VR that is magical experience.

Hopefully the right rules/laws will be made that keep the VR worlds clean, safe and fun for everyone that chooses to enter them. There would need to be laws just like the real world to keep everyone safe. Hopefully in the end it will all be a good/positive impact on the world. At least to the best of our abilities to make it so.

I find the concept of VR exciting, and something I'd like to experience. I just have these concerns, not so much with VR itself, but with the understanding that there are an awful lot of people out there with less than good intentions when it concerns other people. I'm just for making the potential pitfalls something to be studied, discussed and regulated to disallow any type of mental manipulation of users. IMO, it should be regulated to specifically prevent this type of occurrence from happening. If it isn't even being brought up as a concern, I think it guarantees that such manipulation will take place.

Yeah man, I can't imagine these concerns wouldn't be a main focus during development. I'm sure they'd have rules and regulations in place that kept manipulating players at bay. There'd be people who figure out how to break the rules, or hack, or whatever, but I'm sure player safety would be a huge concern and this would be heavily regulated. I'd sure as hell hope so at least. xD

And thanks the speed of 5G the power of VR will be huge!

Is 5G on it's way? :O

You can play Elite Dangerous in VR too. VR is def. going to be a giant market in the future.

That game looks cool! And I totally agree... obviously. xD

Can't wait for VR nookie!! Imagine if that is actually made into something that is convincing and realistic. Incredible.

Exactly dude! I love reality, but realistic VR would be so amazing too... heart eyes emoji

Exciting times we live in!! There may be more emojies needed soon! hehehe
