This tutorial was made for the GTX 1050, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, GTX 1080 Ti, and GTX TITAN X.

Linux mint users need to run the command "sudo service mdm stop" in place of "sudo service lightdm stop"

UPDATE: I have updated the commands in here with the most recent driver Nvidia recommends for the GTX950-GTX TITAN X
This guide will help you set up your Nvidia graphics card even if you boot to a blank sceen or are completely locked out of your GUI.

Commands:

Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 at log-in screen (type in user-name and password into command line) No Apple Keyboards (You may be able to change that in the keyboard settings, but it might be a little harder without GUI)

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

blacklist amd76x_edac
blacklist vga16fb
blacklist nouveau
blacklist rivafb
blacklist nvidiafb
blacklist rivatv

sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia*

sudo service lightdm stop

(for Mint its "sudo service mdm stop") without qoutes

cd ~/Downloads

wget us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/375.39/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-375.39.run

sudo chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-375.39.run

sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-375.39.run

sudo nvidia-xconfig

sudo update-initramfs -u

sudo reboot

Booting to blank screen and don't even get to the log in page? Try this...

Press "e" at grub menu to edit the boot options.

(adding "nomodeset" to your grub boot options right after "quiet splash"near the bottom line will help you)

**** Sometimes after updating your OS you will need to repeat this process minus the whole blacklisting the drivers part.****
