This is the video for my day out to Northern Thailand last month. I'm going to take you to the White Temple at Chiang Rai, then to the Mae Sai border with Myanmar, followed by a boat trip around the Golden Triangle, and finally, we're going to pop over to Laos - all in one day! Let;s go!!!

lol, pseudo-Laos is a fake-fair for tourists. I'd be surprised if it was real beer - quincey you said ;-)
I made a naive mistake of buying a corkscrew there that turned out to be plastic - about as useful as the mythical chocolate teapot. I threw the wine down the sink too.
When I was at the white temple, the interior frescoes had not been completed, yet seemed already overly apocalyptic. Would have been good to see a 360 of the inside.

Haha, that special administrative region in Laos is so bizarre. China leases it off Loas to build casinos so the Chinese can come over to gamble as its forbidden in China. Then the market looks as though all the stuff is made in China, sold back to the Chinese.
As to the White Temple, as nice as the building is, it doesn't feel like a temple. As we were walking across the bridge into the temple there was a loudspeaker blasting out messages telling people to keep moving (you might just about hear that in the video), it was so noisy like a market. Then the inside wasn't as spectacular as the traditional temples, to be honest, it's like 'Oh! We'd better put a buddha in here because this is supposed to be a temple." Photography and filming wasn't allowed inside, but as usual, there's always a group of tourist who ignore that rule.

Sounds like a very similar trip I took some years ago, just as a tourist thing for my Thai in-laws as they'd never been that far North; I only went coz had to do a visa run at Mae Sai ;-)
I like temples built inside caves or in a forest! You also can't get a mobile signal inside cave :-)
