Selected Pawpaw Cultivars Will Blow Your Mind!

in dtube •  5 years ago  (edited)

We’ve come to know and love the North American indigenous fruit, the wild Pawpaw, Asimina triloba. From it’s pleasing foliage, to maroon flowers and later to unbelievable sweet & plump fruit, it offers much to the adventurous forager.

For thousands of years, humans have been eating and selecting choice pawpaws. Over time genetics are passed on and selections are made for superior tree growth and fruit quality.

I'm so envious!! We have 2 pawpaw trees here at Kindred Acres. They are young still....only set out 2 flowers per tree this year but no fruits. I suspect next year we should see a few fruits. I don't even know what variety they are as I purchased the plants at a local farmers market and they weren't labeled nor did the salesperson know what they were. I'm anxious to see what we end up with. If they are great, I just might graft or start some more from seed although I contemplate adding another variety. I love having variety. :) Enjoy your haul! Looks fabulous!!

When I saw the photos, I thought, wow their pawpaws sure got big this year! But then I listened to the video and realized you were at a research station. Did you get to bring any fruit home, or seeds or scion wood?

Yes we were able to bring home about half of the fruit and we will be selling and planting seeds from the select cultivars! :)

Paw paw love I would say :) 200 lbs is a lot of fruit, your freezer will be packed! Can't wait to visit and enjoy the different flavors mmmmmmm! It will really be fun to see these new varieties growing at @mountainjewel! You guys look wonderful oxoxoxox
