Watch Guys Hot Tub Shelter Project video on DTube

My buddy Guy needed a shelter for his backyard to cover the cement patio area and a blind for his hot tub. This is a video of the cover we built using BC Red Cedar for the project. Three of the posts were dug into the ground and cemented in, three of the posts had to be mounted to the existing cement pad with industrial strength cement retainers. All lower supports were installed with Carriage bolts and adhesive. The roof was attached using hurricane clips. The roof is a product made by Ondrus, panels that can withstand 140 kilometer winds an attached with nails by Ondrus into lath on the op of the roof. The whole structure was treated with a sealer suited for cedar, one coat only. The second year, all posts and portions of the wood exposed to sun and weather were given a second coat of sealer. The wooden blind was made with tongue and groove cedar boards. The pull down blind was bought at Costco. The shelter provides shade from the sun in the back yard and privacy for the hot tub.
