Cycling up Plett Dirt Climb | South Africa | First DTUBE VLOG

in dtube •  7 years ago

I decided to get the tires of my Giant TCR dirty again, and went cycling up Plettenberg Bay Dirt Climb.

The climb is pretty short, at around 3km, but starts off super steep!

The first 400m is at an average of 14% and then it averages out to around 8% by the end. Some mountain bikers got a bit triggered today seeing me ride up there, but it really was not that hard.

I think the most important part is to have the correct gearing on your bike. I run a compact crank at the front and a 40T cassette at the back. This is so that I can always be spinning even when it gets steep.

This is my first vlog on Dtube! I know it was quite short and not too exciting but there are better things to come, I promise.

Thanks for watching, I'll see you in the next video!

I'm guessing you also need a long cage mech for the 40 tooth cassette. This climb sounds a bit like my "favorite" in the UK, The Burway in terms of steepness. Though it is tarmaced not a dirt road https://www.strava.com/segments/6681340
