There's a problem throughout social media about the tyranny of exceptionalism.
This is where only the exceptional and all of the good in people's lives is documented and posted onto social media sites, such as facebook and instagram. It is all bullshit. None of the difficulties or the hard work or the difficulties are shared onto these platforms so the people viewing these 'idols' so to speak are delluded into thinking exceptionalism is the norm. This is extremely unhealthy and far from the truth in reality and something that people need to be aware of.
It's extremely unhealthy for people to believe that all of these social media influences have magnificent lives ( of course a very subjective term ) because it leads them to believe that life is like that all the time. Thus, people deny any adversity in their life, making life all the more difficult!
It's extremely possible that some people really do have magnificent lives. All depends on your mindset I guess. But there are a lot of fakers (tons!) and it's nice for people to actually be genuine. I wish people would get online more and show what life is really like. (Like I do! 😉)
I go back and forth with Instagram. Mostly I post Haiku's and other poetry. but for the most part I stay away from it now. and I despise Facebook altogether. Our time is so valuable and often wasted, I know I have wasted a great deal of my life in the past, Steemit is the first place where I feel my time is well spent.
I use to do that but the people I followed never created much in the way of new art, just the same old selfies or quotes. I guess I could have attempted to find new people to follow but in the end felt my time was better spent creating my own words.

Bam. This is making people very unhappy to see all these magnificent lives that are portrayed.

I often scroll through instagram when I'm watching a show or something, but I'm pretty much done with facebook.
