On Steemit the votes are represented by upvote and flag. I think it takes more of a mental push to flag somebody than it does to giveaway thumbs down, even though in this case they mean the exact same thing lol

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

  • Disagreement on rewards
  • Fraud or plagiarism
  • Hate speech or trolling
  • Miscategorized content or spam
