So now you have a unified parenting strategy and a shared vision. You are on the same page with your spouse. What's next?

As parents, you have to apply your parenting strategy as a couple and as individuals.

The kiddos will quickly know who the soft parent is. They will pounce and attack, so it is important that you make an individual commitment to consistently apply the guidelines you have set with your spouse.

Will there be obstacles? Of course!

• long days at work
• unexpected illness (parents and/or kiddos)
• defiant attitudes (parents and/or kiddos)
• one parent left at home with the kiddos (for hours or even days)
• late nights that leave you weak and vulnerable
• and the list goes on

And when the obstacles come it is so easy to say, "Just a few more minutes of screen time" or "Yes, eat more sugar."

It is in the difficult moments that your resolve to be a consistent parent will be tested.
