SURFYOGI - First Vlog Entry - New Potato Diet and Quit Drinking 9-7-17 8.45 PM

in dtube •  7 years ago

Changes are coming, and one of them is this video right here. I’ve not been making my own videos thus far, just blogging.

So the vlogging thing is new for me, and I’m getting used to it. I think I can make it work because I like hearing myself talk; so that works for me..

I need to make some changes and it seems like the right time.
I want to drop some weight, and to do that, I need to go on a diet.

I also need to stop drinking.

And all this rounds off 10 years since I got separated and finally divorced; so it’s been 10 years, and I really want to move on.
But that’s 10 years of a fairly steady drinking problem; I call it a problem in that I don’t think I went a day for that 10 years without drinking.

So where as I was mostly a social drinker before, for the last 10 years I’ve been a habitual drinker, and I want to stop that part.

So I’ll lay off drinking for a while; maybe a year?

And then I saw this video recently by Penn Jellete and he kicked off losing a lot of weight with a Potatoe diet.

That makes sense to me, being mostly Irish, so I’ll try that for the first month, and then go from there. I’ll modify it and say I can also eat greek yogurt, herbs, and greens of just about any kind.

I wanted to share this experience on Steemit, because I feel I have a support structure here I can count on and really value, and I hope someday someone will see this and maybe it will help them.

I spent some time looking around on Steemit looking for people talking about quitting drinking, and I found a few.

It was interesting to see their approach and how they shared about it…

I will go with my own style here, but I appreciate everyone that shared their experience and I’ll put this up to share in the grand tradition.

Make no mistake, I like to drink and I like to eat.

I intend to keep doing plenty of both. But it’s gotten out of hand, and I need to take a break for a year and work on my habits and find some new ways of doing things.

I’m really bad at moderation, and I decided after watching Penn’s video on his potato diet, I’d read the book he wrote about it “Presto!” and try his approach, since it worked for him.

I think it’s mostly the drinking that keeps the weight on me. No matter what I eat, if I don’t stop drinking, I’m just going to stay heavy..

So I’m thinking if I quit eating heavy foods, and if I stop alcohol for a while, it’s just going to come right off; and I’ll be a happier person.

Wish me luck!

😜👍

I recently quit drinking since I was becoming a serious alcoholic.

A few things happened which surprised me:

  • I suddenly have so much more energy as I am going to bed earlier and waking up earlier
  • My creativity has gone through the roof
  • My memory has become sharper
  • I feel so much happier AND healthier overall!

As far as losing weight... You will lose a bunch of weight just from cutting all of those alcohol calories. I was consuming anywhere from 500-1500 calories (or more) per night just from alcohol at one point!

The hardest part is having to find something to do with all of that free time ;)

GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND!

Thanks for this comment, it definitely helped me focus. I'm doing well with the changes, and it's been an eye opener. All of the above has been the result, so I am enjoying it now. Cheers, SY-

Booze is the bad guy for weight, but some changes in foods will help too.

Good luck!

Hey great to see you @surfoyogi! I think you not need to lose your weight you were already look like young boy!! Lolz

Big thumbs up

Excited for your journey man! I've had a similar past 10 years and have been embarking on a journey towards self healing! I quit drinking in December 2015 and really don't miss it at all. I've been working on ever increasing dietary changes as well and those have made me feel better in ways I never expected.

Good luck man!

Alright, coming from you, that's means a lot.

great to see you man ....i love your spirit and the steps that you have taken to maintain your good health...i thinks your such action will truly motivate others

Wow!!!,,,,
Booze is the bad guy for weight, but some changes in foods will help too.

Is it me or the video is not loading? I have a 100 Mbps connection, still the video is not playing. It got stuck at 00.15 seconds.
Anyways glad to see you vlogging sir @surfyogi.
About your drinking habit,
You should go for fitness sessions like gym or some basic yoga. Actually, start with yoga, it can do a lot for your health as well as your mind. Quit drinking as soon as you can otherwise all your fitness hard work will be turned futile.
Wish you all the health :)

Burn some fat is also my problem. I will eat salads only. I wish success for you ))

Hy,
I am happy to see you on video and hear your voice! I am sure your vblog will be at least same success as your blog!

Keep it @surfyogi!
All the best!

Great step taken buddy
it might get hard on the way but the end result will worth your effort
best of luck

FWIW The video played really smoothly for me.
I hope you do well. I have been on and off the weight loss train...it aint easy. I have been vlogging on YT for years and can say it really helps for accountability....plus its fun. I am moving some of my YT vids over to my D Tube channel. Good luck man and keep us posted.

Thanks for the comment.
I'm thinking it makes a great tradition, to share hard work with the community and see where it takes me.

The first @surfyogi vlog. It is great to see you were finally were able to get a video up on to dtube rather than it letting you down constantly. Did you find out what the problem was or did it just start working randomly?

I would love to be able to view the vlog but it seems like dtube doesn't let me play. When I try to it just pulls up with a slashed play button. I guess I'll view it on my laptop when I get on

I agree that vlogging is better. I think it is a better way to engage with your community as well as it seems like you are a natural vlogger if you like the sound of your own voice haha

I've never tried a potato diet before. I guess it would be mostly comprised of carbohydrates. I don't know what purely having carbs does to the body but I bet the Greek yoghurt will make it even better.

I'm sorry to hear about your divorce and the drinking problems it caused but inner you will be persevere in fighting this demon. I wish you the best of luck bud

That's strange, you are the only one that says you can't see the video. Please try a different browser, and a vpn, and see if it's any different? It would be nice to know if it's your ISP, or your home country, or if you just hit a bad cloud IPFS server first try..

Dtube just started working for me. I was going to upload a smaller, re-encoded video, and the first one finally uploaded (~400Mb, took 15 mins?). I had the vpn turned off; who knows if I did something different this time, or if I was just more patient, or what. Who knows.
Let me know if you get it working for you, and what city your in.

Sorry about you and your wife's divorce. For me i have never been funned of drinking because the way it reacted to me the first time in took it was bad. The first time i took bear i suffered alot with stomach pain and so that made not the really like again and i stopped. Though i still take occasionally, like twice in a year.😁😁 i support you for trying to reduce you in take of alcohol, in think it is good.

I wish you luck. Pretty ambitious, I hope you succeed.

Well I'm definelty waiting new videos from you :) Also goodluck in your new dietary stuff I tried quiting a lot of things. I'm not succesfull so far.

I am really very happy for you. Atleast now you will be starting a new and fresh life. Bury the past things and just focus on what you can do and what is left in your hands. I wish you very besy of luck for weight loss and quit drinking. The only thing I wonder is that really possible to loose weight only with potatoes.

So I wanted to point out to you the very famous Penn and Teller!
There is a book, called Presto!, that deals with this very question ;-)

https://www.amazon.com/Presto-Pounds-Disappear-Other-Magical/dp/1501139525/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504942129&sr=8-1&keywords=presto+penn

Turns out there are many YT videos that deal with this question as well. It was fun to realize I can do this, many people have done this, and it's a great way to drop weight fast, and then continue to drop as long as I like, with a more relaxed version of this diet.

Ok let me buy one for me.

I couldn't get it to play

Hey Yogi, I really hope you'll manage to handle this alcohol "addiction". It's one of the most difficult to quit. Some people say it's even stronger than heroin. But we say that the people who manage to quit, become one of the most strong and successful in life.

You are already a person full of positiveness and energy. I can't imagine what kind of beast you will be after that. :D

Cheers my friend!

I would suggest you to go on a Protein diet and hit the gym at least 4 times a week. And I think it;s OK to drink occasionally.

I need to rehabituate. Penn talks a lot about it in his book..

It's easier to do things that I don't have to think about so much; and I can stand to lose some muscle too; I've been doing the gym most of my life so I just want to drop weight and then start the gym again; it fucks with my appetite way less, and I know that now, from trying lots of things over the years.

And for me, even going a day without a drink was hard; so I want to spend some time without it again; and feel what that's like again.

Mostly I'm glad I can rebuild my relationships with things over time and be exactly as I want to be.

Its really great that you realized what was going wrong and working on it to make it right. Yes alcohol also leads to increase in weight so better stay away from it. Why don't you try yoga?It will help you in regaining both mentally(spiritual development ) and physically too.

Yoga is too hard to do if heavy; I am accomplished at yoga, looking forward to doing it again.

Good luck, dear @surfyogi!
The main thing is to stick to proper nutrition!)

Good luck for you. Sounds like a great plan. Do it step by step and take your time. At the end, you will win.

To encourage you to drink less ;)

The first step to changing a habit is knowing that you want and need to change it. I hope you find all of the strength and courage to do it! You got this! :)

nice writing...

follow me.>>>>

@surfyogi, you've not only got to stop drinking for a year, but permanently. May be the reason for your weight gain. For the past ten years you've been strong but you gotta be stronger when you abstain totally from drinking.

interesting and useful post and I was very scared of that drink @surfyogi...i follow you and help me

Atta boy brother! I'll be following your vlog for sure!

One thing that changed my life for the better is Qi Gong. I've never felt anything like it. Much like Yoga. In fact legend has it that that the man who created Zen Buddhism invented it because his students were spending so much time meditating that they were becoming frail, so upon his return from India to China he created a qi gong based on his knowledge of Yoga in order to strengthen the bodies of his students to be in line with their minds.

Thanks for the reference. I'll check it out; have never tried it.

i just read this post and wanted to honor your commitment to transformation ~ How is it going now months later? i have a lot of experience on this subject and can share more if there is interest! Overcoming Self-Destruction has been the theme of this life for me...and investing instead in Self Discovery!
