DTube: IPFS Error

in dtube •  7 years ago  (edited)

I am trying to upload a video to DTube and I keep getting a IPFS error.

The video was filmed on my cell phone and I ran it through handbrake. It a MP4 file and the file size is 142 MB.

Any reason why I am getting this and why the file wont upload?

Best of luck. Maybe it's just something going on with the site? Unfortunately I don't use Dtube yet. :-(

This is my first foray into it also.

I am perplexed...is it they system or something I am doing wrong?

Same for me, still dont works!

Yeah I dont know what the problem is. It really sucks.

If this is common, it is a huge hindrance to the expansion of DTube. I am committed to this platform so I am willing to keep at it. But I know the average person would pack it in after the second or third time.

Did you end up figuring out s way to get it up?

i agree - many youtubers are trying to move here! Fix it somebody!

I have similar problems but I can't even play videos it says I am not running ipfs or something pretty crazy if anyone knows how to fix video playback on Dtube please let me know I would really appreciate it.

Try running it through handbrake.

Make sure you choose web optimized.

whats handbrake? im having this problem now

I am getting this intermittently for WEEKS now, but the last few days get it CONSTANTLY. Was just beginning to look into alternatives, but would love to salvage this situation.

Even with very small files -- it seems to finish uploading, then finally concludes "File received. Adding to IPFS Datastore..." and then fails.

UPDATE: After MANY attempts I was able to get a single file (61MB) up: https://dtube.video/#!/v/iceagefarmer/jh9ezx39

Was 61MB the smallest file you tried?

I get exactly the same thing as you did...on everything I tried.

No I've had intermittent success; early on I think I managed to get a 1gb+ file up, but I could be wrong. But definitely getting ~200-300mb videos on INTERMITTENTLY now once again. A progress bar was just added during upload, which is visually nice, even if it hasn't seemed to fix the IPFS issue.

This has driven me sufficiently crazy to install a local IPFS gateway and play with it; an alternative might be to achieve the upload OUTSIDE the dtube UI, then provide a reference to it. But I'm sure that would just make for even more opportunities for breakage (and delivering weird content to media players).

What fun problems to solve.

@taskmaster4450 Its very interesting info.. Excellent post keep it up.

Try compressing it to way lower MB, hope that helps!

That's what handbrake does; it has not helped the issue.

Might be a stupid question but did you check the web optimized box in handbrake? What browser are you using?

Firefox...and not at first but I did on my second attempt.

Try that dang google chrome. It worked for me. I tried edge on windows 10 many times and no luck. Didn't matter what I did it wouldn't work. Then I switched to google chrome and it worked. That is the only thing I use google chrome for. I hate google.

No luck. Did it in Chrome...96.8MB file with web optimization on.

Same error code.

If this is the way DTube is, it has no chance of taking off. People arent going to try this 10 or 12 times before throwing in the towel.

I never posted anything on YouTube before...but I am seriously considering it now. At least that platform works...sad to say.

Amen to that. I was getting that error when trying to upload from my iPhone and edge. I wonder what happened. The last video I posted was a short homemade video and it worked no problem. But before that it was a nightmare!! With problems like this happening a lot Dtube goin to stay where it is. we need a video platform that is works consistently and unfortunately Dtube hasn't been. But they keep working on it so only time will tell. Sorry I could help more.

No problem @jlsplatts. I appreciate all of your help.

As for DTube, it needs to be simple for the non technically inclined. If is inst, I agree, it will stay where it is.

"User friendly" is the key to any social sites success in my opinion.

I’m getting the same error and currently on my 5th attempt. I really don’t want to give up, but it’s been all day!

I also having that issue. I can't upload at all. Sucks...

Fantastic post. @taskmaster4450

Tried uploading a 70mb mp4 file, the IPFS error popup showed, waited around 12hrs. and tried again, that attempt was accepted..used chrome-based Vivaldi browser.

12 hours???? LOL
try in night then next try in morning. voila :D

Try using a different file type like MOV or AVI that helped me yesterday. I was having the same problems as you and that seemed to help me, Might only work once but atleast its still something.

I am officially about to give up on DTube.

I keep getting the same IPFS error no matter what I do.

It is sad because it could be a potentially wonderful platform.

I've tried all different browsers as well. Please holler if you figure something out.
