The Anger is Bad Fuel | the daily stoic | meditations on wisdom, perseverance and the art of living!

“there is no more stupefying thing than anger, nothing more bent on its own strength. If successful, none more arrogant, if foiled, non more insane — since it’s not driven back by weariness even in defeat, when fortune removes its adversary it turns its teeth on itself” — Seneca

Wow, ain’t that the truth.

I’m really digging this book, I had no idea it was a single page a day kinda thing, I was always gonna treat the book as a jump in anywhere kinda thing but actually this day by day, month by month breakdown around ‘topics’ has been brilliant — loved it in January and it’s just perfectly on the money each and every day because I can align it to something that’s either happened or my mind got distracted by, it’s a great anchor.

inner-strength and self awareness

I think one thing that I’ve been blessed with all of my life and carries on with all those close to me is the fortune that I have invested in inner-strength and being self awareness about when I need to change things up in my life.

It’s crucial to get to the core of the hangups and issues in your life, removing those cancers at root level, not allowing things to feed them (and on you) in the process — with so many people globally in a state of potential distraction it can be a cluster fuck to find your people who will understand and support you through these times but they are out there.

nobody has copyright on your life

One of the wonderful things I’ve found a lot of freedom in is the ability to use a blockchain, it’s interesting on so many levels — like for instance the way that something that everyone needs to use somehow get’s secured.

Normally with a centralised system you have someone that governs it and takes care of it, makes sure it stays up but in a decentralised system you have lots of people keeping up their own services, in fact, it rewards you (on steem) to keep your witness up because you get steem for keeping it up.

What’s wild with that too thou is that because everyone requires the network to be up you have strength in the unity of the code of the system, it’s a powerful idea for society way past code and whirring disks and flashing server less.

fix your own bitterness, you don’t govern anyone

There has been so many times in my life when I’ve been asked to ‘make a deal’ or ‘meet someone halfway’ — what those people have meant every single times is never what they say, there is no 50/50 on these things, or at least not in my experience (apart from long time friends and the trusted handshake of trust of people who understand equal respect)

But also there is great power in removing the sting of the way something feels when confronted, it’s got a natural arc to it I’ve found — like for instance when I ran my below ground studio in the city, I knew when time was ready to move on, you can just sense it.

anger and depression live together

You can’t start work on yourself if you are angry/bitter about things in your life and the lives of others, you just spin around over and over frustrated about everything, how the world works, how people operate, you start crafting judgements about that person that are unshakeable.

That’s a terrible head state to live with on a daily basis, using it as fuel to not actually deal with your own problems in life. I’ve found that removing the ‘anger’ about things you have not control over is the place to start. Work with what you have, what feels natural at your core, remove the distractions.

don’t live an ALT account life

It’s easy in life to build in defences to make you believe that you have taken control of your own issues. You are the best person to convince you that it’s everyone else’s problems and not your own. You can easily ALT account yourself and not take good care of yourself. If you pack it down, hide it away, it will eat away at you like a nasty cancer, your bodies chemistry changes and fuels the anger and depression you’re trying so hard to fix.

You can only start to cure the state of falling into that dark grey place of depression if your not angry about absolutely everything — start filling the hours of your day with meditation, lots of water, good books and nature, you’ll be surprised how your mood on your life changes.

Hope you have a great week ahead!

I really like what you say about meeting someone halfway. There is no halfway. If someone asks you to meet him/her halfway it is always in that person's favour.
