Typical Steemit Success Revolves Around Keeping it Real

We all know that ideally, if you keep it real on steemit, you can experience some levels of success. Well, our ac unit broke on us last week. I called out an HVAC technician to diagnose the unit and he quoted us $500. He said that our fan motor had burned out and for a nominal fee of $500 he could fix it. I thanked him for his time and started googling the price of a new fan motor which was $89 on Amazon and $100 local msrp. With all the how to videos on Youtube and other parts of the internet, I knew that I could cover the $400 labor myself. I set off on a new adventure of being Fix It Felix

Steps to Failure

  • Open the Unit and expose the wiring
  • Mark the wires for when you install the new fan
  • THIS IS WHEN IT GETS TOUGH - I realized we had 2 capacitors
  • GIVE UP and put everything back the way it was
  • This is when Google comes into play

The above still shots were accompanied by a few videos of me explaining what I was doing. Once I realized that I was gaining absolutely no traction, I decided to put everything back the way I found it and look for a cheaper HVAC technician. Well Google Photos took the liberty of making an auto-generated mashup video of my steps which turned out really well. As much as I would love to pretend that this task was success, THE VIDEO IS A LIE.

Thanks for sharing the nice video @ xtraodinarypilot

So, your air conditioning is now working and you are out of pocket at least $400 bucks. Moral of the story...hire someone else to do the dirty work and video them...

that would make one heck of a post. Video them and say I did it lol

You would have to put a disclaimer on the post though...

    Cool..my dtube gives me issues

DTUBE always gives me issues. They are constantly updating it.

Good for you for giving it a try yourself first. And it's good you can look at this experience and find some humor. DIY is not always easy! The blower fan in our furnace when on the blink over the summer. I called out the AC service I had used before, and they quoted us about $450 to repair. My partner (we'd been dating less than a year) said he thought he could fix it, and did the same with googling, etc. He knew a guy who does AC repair, also, so he got some phone "tech support" and a special tool that was needed to unscrew a strangely placed bolt holding the whole unit in the furnace. It was an all day thing, but he did get it done. He later told me he blew 3 furnace fuses that day because he'd wired it in wrong once or twice. o.O

Full disclosure, I had to go ask my partner what the part was called. The AC unit was working fine, but without the blower fan, the air couldn't be distributed throughout the house...

Good work! I have a couple service calls for you here in San Diego.
