#2 creativity is overrated

I normally like to try and do things my own way, mainly because I think I'm smarter than everyone else.

Most of the time this doesn't work.

Most of the time, I end up frustrated that I'm not making progress as quickly as I expected. That's usually when I give in and start following the directions.

The problem is that making entertaining videos is something that people can spend a lifetime learning how to do and still not get it right. I don't have that kind of time.

So I figured I would just copy what Casey Neistat does and hope for the best. Granted, I'm using my iPhone and a $25 flexible tripod knockoff instead of a $6000 camera and a GorillaPod, but it's the story that matters. Right?

Maybe a little bit of both.

Anyway, obviously I can't copy homeboy exactly in a single day. But the idea is to maybe just copy one of his little tricks each day in each video. Today I messed around with continuing the conversation throughout the scenes. I don't know what it's called, but basically instead of sitting and talking to the camera and saying what I want to say in a single scene, I spread it out into multiple scenes.

All in all, this shit is pretty fun. I'm hopping on a plane to Israel in a few hours.

Day 2!
And yes! The process is everything, not the end product. Or you can as well put it this way too,Failure is the loss of victory routine. Asin not keeping up with the behind the scenes work.

Your videos are theatrical! The way you run up to the camera and shit!

LOL thanks man. Yeah I stole that from Casey Neistat. He does all kinds of weird shit like that. Gonna try and incorporate a different gimmick in each one.

Well done man!!!
If you can keep going like this, quality is great, or at least good enough for an "average steemit dude" like me, it's the adventure and the traveling and the going crazy about stuff and "telling us like it is", that I like anyway, good job with the narrative, keeping the dialoge flowing like that over multiple clips...

Thanks for sharing @yallapapi!!!

Im resteeming this one!

Thanks brother, much appreciated. The encouragement helps.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to juggle these videos with all the other shit I need to do on a daily basis. But like I said in the video, it's really the process of making them that holds the benefit. Not the actual end result.

You can do it @yallapapi!

But maybe like 3 or 4 videos a week is a more realistic routine?
Or just keep it raw, and do it everyday without hardly any editing?

I can understand what you mean with the process and sticking to a routine, it's the journey's the goal, not the goal in it self...
I wish I could be more disciplined, it's hard man.

Anyway best of luck bro!

LOL thanks man, you're my #1 cheerleader.

Honestly though, I don't think 3-4 is more realistic. At this point it would actually be easier for me to do one every day. The reason is that if I make it a daily habit, I'm going to get used to doing it and it's going to become a part of my life. If I say 3-4 times per week, that right there is already a vague promise. What's 3-4? Is that 3 or 4? Is it sometimes 2? Slippery slope.

Listen man, some day you're going to be an old piece of shit like me and won't be able to fantasize anymore about what you'll be when you grow up. Someday you'll be all grown up and you'll look at what you've done so far and likely be disappointed with what you see. I'm there right now which is why I'm working so hard. I know eventually I'll realize that even that doesn't matter, but it actually feels good to do all this work and create content. I've never written a post, filmed a video, or otherwise created something that I ended up regretting. It's always a good thing.

It's not discipline really. It just has benefits that make it worth the time.

"benefits that make it worth the time" I like that, thats such an inspirational thing to say... I will think like that instead of just trying to push discipline into my life...

Yeah, I get the slippery-slope thing, if you feel that way.

Also it gets "realrrrr" if it is everyday...

And I did try to "grow up" once, and then I realized that what I wanted to do, "my goal in life" was not as cool as I thought, and it didn't work out the way I thought it would, and I hit the wall... Now I am kind of back on square one again...

My life is okay, could be better I guess, but despacito, despacito, things are moving in the right direction, (or I like to tell myself that anyway)...

Cheers!

I am pretty much like you patience wise. I wannabe the best quickly by my own rules and when I don't progress at my expected time, I get impatient and then follow what is told to achieve things. The price of your equipment does not matter aslong as you provide priceless information. People want your expertise, knowledge and a bit of entertainment without going all preachy which I think you're achieving. So goodluck!! And have a safe flight to Israel..happy journey mate

That's true, otherwise we'd have no movies that cost $100m to make that flopped. But that happens all the time. And meanwhile you have YouTubers who film everything with a selfie stick and their iPhone and make bank. It's all about the content and whether or not people find it entertaining.

I'm safe and sound in Israel, will be posting some good stuff soon.

Eh. Just do things your own way and make no progress. So long as you're happy with your way, you're gaining more like this than by following others.

Of course, that's far more easily said than done. Most things are, in fact almost everything is except for speaking. That's just as easily done as said.

I feel like the main benefit of doing this isn't creating a video, it's how I have to push through my own bullshit in order to get it done. Filming myself on the street, with a bunch of people around, with my friends around... it all makes you very aware of yourself and insecure. You feel like everyone is looking at you.

Not only that, but when you edit it, you're forced to look at yourself for hours at a time and you notice all your little imperfections. It's uncomfortable, but at least when you're aware of your imperfections you can take steps to fix them. Silver lining.

Hmm. I just pretend they don't exist, unless they're actually things I'd care about it's really a far more enjoyable/ fulfilling way of living your life. Nobody's perfect, nobody is going to be. You just have to get rid of the worst of your imperfections and deal with the rest.

Though perhaps that's just me, I'm very... unashamed of what I do my own way, of what I do which others would consider wrong, so long as I don't consider them wrong. In fact, I mind when I'm caught doing something I think is wrong and others don't find anything wrong with whatsoever.

But yeah, I can deal with everyone looking at me, so long as I don't have to interact with them.

I like your "continuing the conversation" through different scenes. I dont know what it's called either, but it reminds me of when a news broadcaster sitting at a desk changes cameras and turns their head to the new camera. It might keep us from falling asleep or going in to a a trance. LOL.

Watch some of Casey Neistat's videos, he uses a similar tactic. No idea what it's called but it helps to keep you engaged, especially when there's shit going on in the background.

Good for you man. Making videos is so much fun. Keep at it and every video you will add a new skill to the toolbox. Looking forward to seeing more from you. Grind on homie. If you're ever in Toronto hit me up - we can make a super epic dope video.
