Jesus wept. This is one of the most beautiful sunsets ive ever witnessed and what just so happens to be my first sunset timelapse with the GoPro.
During the day, me and Chris had decided to explore the island a little which is how i came across this lookout. Usually we'd surf the peak just before dark as the wind tends to drop off - last night was a little different though, and instead the swell dropped off but the wind didnt. Once again mother nature (you old beauty, you) decided my fate and instead of surfing i bombed it back up to the cliffedge on the scooter. After driving through a couple of villages and taking a few bugs in the face, i arrived at the spot and setup the camera.
Because of the earlier GoPros reputation for low light photography I had intended to use the 'Long Exposure Hack' for the hero 3, but on the drive up was questioning the settings id saved and felt the 2 second exposure would been too much. So in a last second decision i formatted the SD card and deleted the hack, hoping the GP would handle the low light.
After starting the timelapse i sat down flicking between the sunset and a book and about 30 minutes later the pages glowed red and the sky set on fire with an intensity that lit up the cliffs brighter than when the sun was peeking over the clouds. Just before last light there were some huge flashes of lightning back in the direction id be driving home so i packed up and set off back.
As with most things you have to pay to play - and the price for this was driving back in the dark through what i can only describe as a mass migration of flys and bugs the size of your hand. Unfortunately for me, they had decided they were travelling in the opposite direction, and in no way wanted to keep to their side of the road. At one point it felt like id been snipered on the forehead by a baby pterodactyl and by the time i was home it looked like id been paint balling rather than time-lapsing.
Safe to say it was worth the trip for tha killa sunset!
