This Is Why I Create Every Single Day | D.Vlog EP. 48

in dtubedaily •  7 years ago  (edited)

About six years ago I chose video as one of my core art forms.

I dove into it with all my energy and excitement.

It was a magical experience at first... but then something really terrible happened.

I started to get frustrated, lost, confused, upset, angry, impatient...

What was once an inspiring experience, suddenly turned into something that I had no desire to take part in.

Fast forward a few years and now I know EXACTLY where I went wrong.

In this video I share with you my struggles with video and creativity, the mindset I had which ended up destroying my creativity, and the mindset I now have that allows me to feel a ton of joy every day that I choose to create! (which is every day) ;-)

The future of an augmented, smart media tokenized world would probably look quite strange...

In this comedy sketch I explore a dark scenario... do you think this could happen?

Really great message here. I am currently shifting through some of this for myself. I am pretty new to the world of content creation, and super new to exploring video. I have enjoyed the few that I've done, but I also see some of those negative feelings creeping in.

I've had a lot of malaise the past few weeks and that has really hampered my creative process. I sometimes feel stressed or anxious about creating, but I'm trying to remember that it may actually have more to do with everything else in my life. My life is pretty damn busy and I need to let that inform the goals I create for myself. There is no way I could create a video even five days a week right now. And that's okay!

Thanks for sharing your story of going through a period of quitting. I can see myself pulled to that. I can sorta be an all-or-nothing kind of person. I want to resist that urge and hold on to creating when I can.

Cheers,
Sam

I totally feel you on the malaise and uncomfortable feelings. It certainly is a thing and if I were to sit here and tell you that I feel great about what I create all the time then I would definitely be lying. Since there is a very introspective and narcissistic compontent to creating video (and more specifically vlogging), you do tend to discover aspects about yourself or your life are sometimes quite uncomfortable! Even just the concept of sharing frequently exposes you to you and that can feel quite vulnerable at times. I struggle all the time with it but thats how I know I'm growing :)

I geared this video towards people who do have the time to create video this often but I'm totally supportive of creating when you can. You have four kids now, right? Even having one kid would require me to be on another level in terms of my creativity so major props for finding the time to keep your creative vibe alive alongside challenging yourself with video. That in itself is very impressive and a reason to celebrate!

Thanks for the awesome comment here (as usual). I always appreciate your honest and real perspective. Its so refreshing!

Awesome response. Thank you.

Great insight. I honestly haven't thought about that a whole lot on this platform, but when reading this I got a flood of memories around these feelings. I've always had a pretty easy time being open with strangers. I don't think I have any of my "in-person" friends on Steemit yet, but as I spend more time here, some of my followers are no longer strangers. I wanted to challenge myself and my tendency to hide, so I intentionally use my real identity for my account. That does not come without a cost though.

A lot of the "blah" that I am feeling is actually connected to Steemit for another reason though. After a month or two of creating, I am realizing more and more how my current career is the antithesis of what I want to be doing. Before Steemit, I was way more content with my job. haha.

Also, I actually have five kids! Thanks for the encouragement.

Well good news is that the antithesis often leads to the thesis... so you're on the right track ;-) and wow man... 5 kids. You are some special dude!

I create videos because there's this overwhelming feeling that this is what I was meant to do. I ran away from it many times before in my life and I've finally stopped caring and gave in and it's all working out at the moment.

Thanks for sharing your drive, Axios

Saying "f*ck it" has been a big one for me too brudda. I'm glad you chose to go for it too ;-)

Great video I know starting with why is a great way to fuel you emotionally and give you direction when you have lost your way in the process. Thank you.

It really does make a difference! Also, its a nice thing to remember during the tough times :)

Another insightful video- and I think this one goes really well together with your previous video on the three levels of creativity. You just inspired me to have a session with myself where I questioned my own reasons and motivations for creating. I've come out of it feeling far more sure of my own goals and with a much clearer picture of my own "why". I think I'll be more effective in future as a result. As always, many thanks for sharing! I'm really glad you found your way back to creating videos :)

@victoria-kelly aw I love hearing that! So awesome - go you for taking that initiative. It really makes a difference, doesn't it? Although it seems like something minuscule, IMO it's one of the most impactful things you can do, especially as a creator. Thank you for sharing this. Made my evening :)

@axios, I have thoroughly enjoying the insightfulness you share and I have you on auto vote.

I chose to comment here and not the video that revealed it, but just in case you wanted to know I was easily able to figure out where you live. Not trying to creep you out or anything...I'd just don't want a creeper to find you. write me at twitter @garysteele and I will tell you what I found and a things you may wanna look out for in your vids if you wanna stay private.

@kieranpearson wow man I really appreciate that! So glad you're enjoying the content - means a lot :)

I also appreciate the heads up there. Thankfully I'm moving from this location in a bit but this is a really good thing to keep in mind. I'll hit you up on twitter!

If you drop your Twitter handle and I will just write you my observations there.
