What if my happiness depends on me being able to hold my girlfriends hand in public? Or..What if I was a woman, and my happiness depended on me being able to report that I was raped, and not be in danger of myself being jailed?

What if my happiness depends on me being able to hold my girlfriends hand in public?

You won't be happy in Dubai.

What if I was a woman, and my happiness depended on me being able to report that I was raped, and not be in danger of myself being jailed?

That's either a misunderstanding on your part or knee jerk hyperbole, @dimmakpalm
Here's how you report a rape in Dubai.

As you are new to @Steemit here's a suggested guideline on how to succeed on @Steemit. What do you think?

Well, I was going to link to some articles backing up my point, but the link you provided will do. From your link. "sex outside marriage is a criminal offense (so is adultery), so unfortunately there are occasional reports of alleged rape victims ending up being prosecuted and jailed for having sex outside marriage" This is backward Nigel.

Laws like this are not indicative of a "happy" place in my opinion. Let me say it once more, in MY opinion. I was merely speaking my mind, although with not very much grace I admit.

As to your "how to succeed"article. I feel that I am supporting the community by engaging in a dialogue that is reflective of my actual thoughts and feelings. I am not here to echo your sentiments for the sake of Steem. If I read something that I feel is untrue or misleading, I am going to say something. This is a free platform where I can voice my opinions.

I have not said anything that is untrue, nor have I attacked you in any manner. Although I admit my comment was terse and aggressive for which I apologize. Good day.

Let me say it once more, in MY opinion.

Let's agree on that one, @dimmakpalm

If I read something that I feel is untrue or misleading, I am going to say something.

Of course. The original blog post is about a government's happiness program, whereas, you weighed in with a red herring on your own happiness. As below,

What if my happiness depends on me being able to hold my girlfriends hand in public?

You have strong opinions, @Steemit is not meant to supress your opinions.

. I am not here to echo your sentiments for the sake of Steem. If I read something that I feel is untrue or misleading, I am going to say something. This is a free platform where I can voice my opinions.

So do I have the choice of whether or not to express my opinion on your opinion. What's sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander. @dimmakpalm

PS: Voluntarily upvoting & following you.
If you ever decide to pay a visit to Dubai give me a shout.
Here's what some women are doing in Dubai.
What do you think?

Let me first say that my comment was never aimed at criticizing the people of Dubai.

As to the video you posted, I think it is amazing what the women of Dubai are doing. I should expect nothing less from a prosperous country such as the UAE.

The original blog post is about a government's happiness program, whereas, you weighed in with a red herring on your own happiness.

My comment was not meant to distract. I was merely highlighting, in a somewhat brutish manner I admit, the irony of a government pursuing a happiness program while simultaneously seeking to police public displays of affection.

The act of holding hands in the west is not only viewed as entirely innocent, but in fact one of the most common ways two people can express their happiness! I thought this was humorous, but I realize that you do not see the comedy.

You seem like a courteous and intelligent individual Nigel and I am sure Dubai is a wonderful city filled with many people such as yourself. We may disagree on some things, but this does not mean we cannot be friends! I have liked and followed you as well.

PS: I am from America, so I am not claiming my country to be perfect, far from it! Since I work in the Oil and Gas industry, I have a few friends in Duabi, it would not be crazy to think I might end up there for a spell, but we'll see! Sorry for the long response! Cheers!

Yes, we are friends, @dimmakpalm
