$10 DOGHOUSE, MADE FROM "TRASH"

in dyi •  6 years ago

SO I HAVE A DOG THAT LIKES TO EAT ANYTHING SHE CAN GET HER MOUTH ON. THIS AT TIMES LEADS TO DIARRHEA. 😔

I HAD BEEN THINKING ABOUT HOW I COULD GET OR MAKE HER A DOGHOUSE SO WHEN SHE DOES HAVE DIARRHEA I CAN PUT HER OUTSIDE WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT HER BEING IN THE SUN. HOWEVER, I LIVE ON A VERY TIGHT BUDGET AND DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY A DOG HOUSE OR THE MATERIAL TO BUILD ONE.

SO THE OTHER DAY WHEN I WAS AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE, AND HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO THROW AWAY SOME EXTRA VINYL FENCING THAT HE HAD, A LIGHT BULB WENT OFF IN MY HEAD.

I COULD USE THIS VINYL TO BUILD A DOGHOUSE!

SO AWAY I WENT TO BUILD A DOGHOUSE AFTER COLLECTING THE "TRASH" FENCE FROM MY FRIEND.

HERE ARE THE PANELS FOR THE FENCE. I WILL USE THEM FOR THE SIDES OF MY DOG HOUSE.

AND THESE ARE THE RAILS THAT WOULD MAKE UP THE BOTTOM OF THE VINYL FENCE. I WILL USE THEM LIKE PIECES OF WOOD TO HOLD MY DOG HOUSE TOGETHER.

I ALSO RUMMAGED THROUGH MY GARAGE AND FOUND A COUPLE OF PIECES OF SCRAP WOOD TO ADD SOME EXTRA SUPPORT. I KNEW I WOULD NEED SOMETHING TO HOLD EVERYTHING TOGETHER SO I WENT TO THE STORE, AND BOUGHT SOME SCREWS. THIS IS THE ONLY THING I BOUGHT FOR MY PROJECT, AND THEY COST ME $10.

I STARTED BY LAYING A PIECE OF SCRAP WOOD ACROSS MY BUILDING TABLE. THEN I BEGAN SCREWING THE VINYL FENCE PANELS TO THE PIECE OF WOOD TO FORM THE BEGINNING OF A TRIANGLE.

I MADE IT 4 FT TALL IN THE MIDDLE AND 6 FEET WIDE. THAT DID THIS BECAUSE MY SON EVAN HAS A VERY STRONG BOND WITH OUR DOG EVIL AND I FIGURE THAT HE WILL ALSO BE IN THE DOGHOUSE AT TIMES. 😁 SO WHY NOT AT LEAST GIVE THEM ENOUGH ROOM?

THE NEXT STEP, WAS TO BRACE THE BOTTOM OF MY "TRIANGLE" SO THAT IT WOULD HAVE SOME STRENGTH. THIS IS WHERE THE BOTTOM RAILS FOR THE VINYL FENCE CAME INTO PLAY. I TOOK THEM AND RAN THEM THE LENGTH OF THE BOTTOM OF THE DOGHOUSE AND SCREWED THEM TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PANELS. THEN I ADDED A COUPLE OF PIECES OF SCRAP WOOD TO GO ACROSS THE BOTTOM AND ADDED THE BACK WALL.

AFTER COMPLETING THE BACK WALL, I MOVED THE DOG HOUSE TO WHERE IT WILL SIT WHEN IT'S COMPLETELY DONE. I STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT EXACTLY WHAT I'M GOING TO DO WITH THE FRONT AS FAR AS A DOOR. BUT HERE IT IS MOSTLY DONE.

AND HERE SHE IS "ENJOYING" HER NEW HOME AWAY FROM HOME.

Nice and creative but i would recommend you add water proof sheets to the roof to prevent rain drops from going in

Yes, waterproofing is yet to come. I'm trying to decide how best o do it. Some type of tarp, caulk, shingles? I'm not sure yet. But it definitely needs waterproofed.

Incredible! Your dog is going to enjoy a new home away from home.

When I was a little kid, I built a small poultry farm form my chicken. I nuture them till they grow up to chockrel then I sold them off for profit.

Thats so nice and thoughtful of you @johndoer123. I am sure your dog is going to love it. The only problem left now is to tame that big appetite of hers. heheheheheheheh

I think your dog liked it!!!

Haha this is very cute my friend. You are indeed so resourceful I dont have a talent like that. Now you have made a new place for your dog and Evan would play sometime.

Good Job in salvaging materials to build something useful.
