New Type of Liquid Battery Will Revolutionize E-car Technology

With a battery that takes a few minutes to recharge, scientists of the American University of Perdue hope to advance electric car technology. The know-how would be applied to already existing gas stations, making it unneccesary to build charging poles in the future.

Researchers have made adjustments to a special type of flow battery. The flow battery doesn't recharge with electricity like a conventional unit. When it runs out of power the battery has to be refilled with liquid electrolytes. That is why it becomes practical for E-vehicles. Two hour charging periods would be a headache of the past if serious research is being put in this technology.

Clients who want to refill their car will have to deposit the old electrolytes in order to receive new ones. The used electrolytes can be recharged in solar farms or at windmill parks and hydroelectic stations which are 100% eco-friendly. Afterworths the liquid electrolytes will be redelivered in bulk to gas stations. Engineers say that no major changes will have to be made to the already existing infrastructures.

The researchers team of Perdue is not the only one to experiment with flowbatteries, however they are the first team to implement these adjustments to it. Their variant has no membrane that seperates liquids which makes the battery more cost-effective and prolonges its lifespan. Poluted membranes are responsible for most of the battery fires while limiting rechargingcycles.
