QR (Quick Response) codes are Information Matrix because of how they look like. They have overtaken traditional Barcodes, because of the following reasons:
- QR has a much larger capacity to hold data, around 4000 alphanumeric characters!
- QR code occupies much less space, thus saves printing area.
- QR is 2D Data structure because unlike Barcodes, it can write data horizontally, as well as vertically.
- QR can have pictures, logos, keywords and much more.
HISTORY: It was initially made to track the cars during the manufacturing process.
HOW TO MAKE QR CODES:
The method that I am going to tell you is very simple and free.
- Go to http://goqr.me/
- You will see TYPE Section. The default selection would be text.
You can write anything in the TEXT section. At the right-hand side, QR code will automatically be generated with your every key press.
- With type URL, you can add your domain/website name, the person who scans your QR Code will be re-directed to your website automatically.
- With vCard type, you can add your Personal/Business Information, so that after the QR Code is scanned, your information will be displayed to the user.
- Just go to the google.com, and type "(business location name) + coordinates", and the Google will return you the coordinates, just copy and paste it there:
The user who scans it will be redirected to Google Maps directly to your location.
You can check rest few types also. The most important and helpful one, I have highlighted and explained.
WHERE CAN YOU MAKE USE OF IT?
BUSINESS CARDS:
- Instead of printing typical old style of business cards, just add your business info, save your QR Code, and just print that on your Business card. It will be more professional and eye catching to the clients.
- You can also add Social Media Account's links, links to website etc.
PRODUCTS:
- If you sell products, you can print QR Code Stickers and just paste them on your products; The stickers are actually storing your Product's info like ProductID, Manufacturing company, Retail/selling price, Manufacturing date etc.
If you are involved in the marketing of selling tickets of something, say Concerts then QR Code is going to be very helpful to you.
You may use Type URL and EVENT for this. In EVENT, add description and time about your event, and in URL, type your website name where you customers can buy tickets, download the generated QR Code, and paste on your Advertisement Street Banners and Brochures!
It is not hard & fast that you should only make use of QR Codes for the above purposes only. Just think about 2 minutes that how can you make use of this interesting technology in a way that would benefit you!
