The death of Jesus: Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. John 12:24

The gospel of John relates that Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead, which had caused a great commotion among the common and simple people in Bethany. This fact also convinced the high priests that they had to kill not only Jesus but also Lazarus, because this beloved friend of the Lord gave testimony of Jesus with his life.
Jesus was aware of the situation, of the conspiracy of his enemies, and this fact did not prevent his triumphal entry into the holy city of Jerusalem riding a donkey.
And it was in Jerusalem where some Greek lovers of the law of Moses approached Jesus, introduced by the disciples Philip and Andrew; and there, during the conversation Lord Jesus prophesied his death in a metaphorical way, explaining that the true life is not the life of the physical body but the eternal life, the life that once obtained cannot be lost.
With this teaching that he gave them, Jesus repeated some ideas from the parable of the sower, metaphorically he expressed that he was that seed that should be glorified with his death, and thus bear that new fruit that would come with the holy spirit, the contemplative life or eternal life.
With these words, Jesus gave them this mysterious teaching about the Kingdom of Heaven, the empire or dominion of God's perfections:
"The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life" John 12:23-25.
With this teaching, Jesus anticipated the arrival of the Holy Spirit and also made clear a concept, the mystery of the Kingdom of God can only be understood from the progressiveness of the gifts of the spirit.
