No es posible predecir cuándo y dónde se producirá un terremoto, de manera oportuna, pero estar informado y saber qué hacer en el momento crítico puede salvarnos la vida.

Que hacer Antes del terremoto (Prevención y educación y riesgos).

• Tener en casa a mano y en un sitio de fácil acceso un botiquín de primeros auxilios, linternas, radio, pilas, teléfono móvil, además de algunos alimentos no perecederos y agua embotellada.

• Realizar un plan de actuación junto con la familia para que todos sepan cómo deben actuar, cuáles son los posibles riesgos o cómo se desconectan la luz, el agua y el gas.

• Conocer los teléfonos de emergencias: Protección Civil, Policía, Cruz Roja, entre otros organismos de respuesta inmediata.
• Asegurar firmemente los objetos que pueden ocasionar daños al desprenderse.
• Supervisar y reforzar si es necesario la estructura de la vivienda.
• Mantener al día la vacunación de todos los miembros de la familia.

Durante el terremoto:

Es muy importante mantener una actitud serena y constructiva porque estamos en una situación de emergencia, aunque sé que es difícil estarlo hay que tener dominio propio.
• Recordar que, si el terremoto no es fuerte, no hay motivo de preocupación, pasará pronto.
• Si el terremoto es fuerte, es fundamental estar calmado y procurar que los demás también lo estén ya que si tu demuestra una reacción temerosa y desesperada puede hacerse el efecto manada y se saldría de control la situación la cual podría poner en riesgo tu vida y las de los demás.

Como reaccionar En el interior de una casa o edificio sea el caso:
• No salir del edificio si encuentran un lugar seguro donde permanecer, las salidas y las escaleras pueden estar congestionadas.
• Resguardarse bajo estructuras que nos protejan de objetos que puedan desprenderse como debajo de una mesa, bajo el dintel de una puerta o colocarte debajo de un escritorio o mesa cerca de una pared la cual tenga una base ya que en caso de colapsar haría un triángulo el cual es llamado el triángulo de la vida en espacios confinados.

• No usar el ascensor, la electricidad puede interrumpirse y quedar atrapado.
• Apagar todo el fuego que pueda estar encendido, y sobre todo no encender ningún tipo de llama ya que podría haber fuga de gases.

Si estas en el exterior de un edificio:

• Mantenerse alejado de edificios, paredes, postes eléctricos y otros objetos que puedan caer.
• Dirigirse a lugares abiertos, intentando no correr por las calles para no provocar pánico.
• Si estamos dentro de un coche debemos parar en el lugar más seguro posible, no salir del vehículo.
• Alejarse de puentes, postes eléctricos y zonas de desprendimiento.

Después del terremoto:

• Comprobar si hay heridos entre los familiares y vecinos.
• Inspeccionar el estado de las instalaciones de agua, gas y luz.
• Comunicar los desperfectos a la compañía que corresponda, es preferible no tratar de solucionar nosotros mismos las averías sobre todo si éstas afectan al gas o la electricidad.
• Limpiar cuanto antes derrames de medicamentos, pinturas y otros productos químicos peligrosos.
• Alejarse de zonas costeras donde pueden ocurrir tsunamis o maremotos.
• No usar el teléfono a menos que sea absolutamente necesario, ya que se colapsará las líneas que pueden ser necesarias para casos verdaderamente urgentes.
• No entrar en edificios dañados ni estructuras con mediana altura y tener extremo cuidado con los objetos que tocamos y que pueden haber quedado en posición inestable.
• Mantener las calles despejadas para que puedan circular los vehículos de emergencia.
