Being in the IT industry you sometimes get sent for training all over the world.
I remember a few years ago I was sent to Taiwan for an one month course, I had to attend classes every day, and at the end of the course, sit for an exam to get the certification.
This story happened around one week into the course. I had rocked up to class as usual that day, we had just finished the first period and was on a short break. Suddenly the room started to shake, it was an Earthquake!
It wasn't a small earthquake, the tables and computer were being shifted around, five centimetres from side to side, you could hear things falling to the ground and sounds of glass and equipment breaking.
I immediately turned to the classmate next to me and asked "Should we start running and get out of the building?" Only to find him still in his seat trying to use the computer and he calmly replied to me "Nah, it's not that serious"…
I looked at his computer monitor, his mouse was going all over the place from the shake, then I looked around and saw that people were holding onto the walls trying to balance themselves from the earthquake, but everyone was calm and no one was running…
After around 5 minutes the shake stopped, everyone came back to the class room and the tutor started to tech again… and no mentioned about the earthquake… I was very confused, the course just carried on as if nothing had happened.
Maybe I was not accustomed to the earthquakes in Taiwan, but I would have thought that an earthquake to that magnitude would at least cause some disturbance to the class. Oh well, looks like class was not going to be dismissed from just a little earthquake...
They probably get earthquakes alot and they’re used to it but still they should be careful at all times.
