For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory. - Colossians 1: 27, NLT
Today marks the 2019th edition of remembrance of the death of Christ Jesus who died on the cross at Calvary that He may restore man from his lost glory and relationship back to God. In the beginning, man was created to share the image and glory of God. This nature man had and lived until he chose to disobey God and subsequently died as God had forewarned him (Genesis 2: 17).
After many years of man's struggling with his fallen nature, God's love for man was still intact and He had another plan to restore man's glory, this time through his begotten son - Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 53 records the things CHrist had to go through which He actually did for the sake of restoring man back to God. Verses 2 through 11 details all the travails Christ bore on our behalf:
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
From the afore, we see Christ becoming a sinner because our sins were laid on Him. He took upon himself our infirmities and things tat corrupted our value that He may conquer them in death towards a resurrection that will bring a new life back to the man that will receive Him.
This sacrifice made by Christ Jesus became what God will use to fill Him with Glory because He (Christ) did something none else could do for us. Today, we have the cause to smile and walk in freedom because Jesus had gone through the travails and took upon Himself our sins and received punishments on our behalf.
v12. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
The good news is that He is sitteth at the right hand of God in heaven in glory with the father with a name raised raised above every other name in heaven and under heaven. Because of his amassed love for man, He gives us hope of sharing in His glory by simply accepting and receiving Him.
All we need do is identify with Him and let Him form in our hearts and we have the hope to share in this glory.
Let us take out time to reflect on this great sacrifice and begin to share in the restored glory He has offered to us.
Hymn: Jesus, keep me near the cross
1 Jesus, keep me near the cross
There a precious fountain,
Free to all—a healing stream,
Flows from Calv’ry’s mountain.
In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
From the cross my ransomed soul
Nothing then shall sever.
2 Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the Bright and Morning Star
Sheds its beams around me.
3 Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadow o’er me.
4 Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I see my Savior’s face,
Leave His presence never.
Lyrics: Fanny Jane Crosby (1820-1915)
Music: William Howard Doane (1832-1915)
