Winter Rears Chilly Head After Easter Weekend

Winter Rears Chilly Head After Easter Weekend

One of the disadvantages of an early Easter is the lack of greenery and flowers (except the store bought kind) and for those of you looking for a prolonged period of warmer weather, you will be sorely disappointed in the long range outlook. Even a trip back to just average temperatures would be nice. Unfortunately other than day to day appearances of average or above average temperatures, the first week in April looks rather cold especially the second half of the week. The temperature anomaly map above shows below average for the first full week of April.

EUROPEAN MODEL TUESDAY APRIL 10, 2018

With higher than average pressures across the polar region, the jet stream is displaced further south and a pipeline of cold air is opened from Northern Canada. This will likely push any storm track further south next week. This time of year snow becomes increasingly rare however given the way March has been, and given the cold pattern being indicated by the global models, we would have to leave the door open for a late season snow possibility. As to anything specific, weather models are picking up on signals in the long range but they are vague at this point. We would need to see how the vortex sets up and what kind of energy (if any) we will be dealing with as it rotates and digs southward around that vortex. We will wait a few days to see how that all plays out.

In the meantime the the rest of this week and the weekend look like typical early spring with ups and downs in the temperatures. We should reach 60 or better Thursday and probably Friday though that will come with some showers at some point. Saturday and Sunday, the Passover/Easter Weekend look dry until perhaps late Easter Sunday as showers arrive with the next cold front. Temperatures will be in the 50s. Next week when we see the arrival of that cold air, we will see days with temperatures in the 40s for highs as opposed to upper 50s to near 60 which is about average.
