The Eclipse May Cripple My Town

I live in a town with a population of just over ten thousand. Tomorrow the estimated number of people coming to view the eclipse is 300,000. I hope they're exaggerating, but even an extra ten thousand people in our small town will make getting around really difficult. There's only one main road, and it's not built for that many people.

People already started to panic and went to buy things at the store. The bread and produce were wiped out and people posted on Facebook about it. Others saw this and rushed out to buy things. Walmart and the grocery stores have been completely full. So now you have grocery stores getting slammed, the few restaurants we have here covered up, and the roads full.

I'm hoping for the best, but I think getting my daughter and getting home tomorrow night is going to be difficult with all the people coming. I've seen people making eclipse playlists, throwing parties, and making big plans. It's just strange to me so many people are coming here to see it. I love living in the mountains, but I just don't see how this is the prime location.

Where will you be watching the eclipse?

I will be watching it in australia on youtube most likely. Now, are you saying 300,000 people are going to your town to watch it? Or 300,000 people will be watching it across the united states?

No! They estimated that many people were coming to our town! It's way too many.

Wow, how did that pan out? Was it as crowded as they predicted?

I imagine a mountain top would make for good viewing.

Why not just stay home and watch?

I will be traveling nearby, I do not live in the path of totality and I will not be there. Sounds like fun!

Because I work in res life at a college and it was move-in weekend. No one can be off. We can go outside to watch it and they're letting the kids out of class, but we have to be there.

We have people coming from all over the world to observe the eclipse. Hotels within 50 mile radius have been sold out for over two years. We will have over 1 million additional people show up in our town. They raised the gas prices by 20 cents for the three day event. Yes grocery stores are thin. Traffic has quadrupled as well

wow! that's crazy!
