Hi Steemers,
I have a question about electral cars, as I feel that only a small part of the ecological story is told.
In Belgium (and by extension Europe), there is a lot of fuzz about electrical cars.
One should stop using combustion engines because of fine dust and CO2.
Electrical cars do not have combustion and as a consequence no fine dust and CO2 ...
But what is the fine dust and CO2 footprint of where this electricity was generated?
I guess it depends on how this energy was created; from non-emmission solar panels and windmills to power plants that use emmission (gasturbines, coal of fuel based power plants) and what with nuclear plants.
Also take into consideration the energy and materials required to build those plants.
What about materials used to transport electricity ... how much pollution was made to create wires and transformation plants ...
Another aspect: how did they make the batteries ... what fine dust and CO2 footprint does these have, as well as other potential bad effects to ecology because of mining, transportation and production.
Final aspect: electrical cars need loading stations ... what is the impact of creating this grid?
Are there comparison studies available which are easy to read?
