Someone just tweeted a Marxism based complaint that consumers make producers their "slaves" by effectively forcing them to produce only what people want.
Seems a strange position for a Marxist. And it's certainly strange to suggest producers should profit by creating things people don't want:value.
The upshot was a call for discussion about what is produced, which leads to political decision making. But in markets consumers just walk away from bad producers - they don't use force against them. When production decisions are made politically, force is always on the table.
And production at the point of a gun is much more akin to slavery than production induced by willingness to make a voluntary exchange.
