When your answer to every social or economic problem is to give the federal government more money and more power to organize our lives for us, it becomes exceedingly easy to draw up talking points to confirm your bias. The seemingly impenetrable vision of government as the magic wand is impervious to empirical evidence or solid reasoning.
Of course this political prestidigitation only works when the population is sufficiently foolish to believe in the vision or is clever enough to realize that such tactics are just racketeering writ large and they are ones who benefit from government being turned into a means of plunder.
When a people have covetousness written on their hearts, they will elect leaders who write plunder into their statutes.
And for their next act, government will stand in a bucket and raise itself off the ground by lifting up on the handles. Followed by filling the shallow end of the pool by taking water from the deep end.
