This is one of the saddest stories of India's banknote demonetisation. Speech and hearing impaired domestic help, Meenakshi by name, has saved her earnings for decades to build a house.

When she realized that her hard-earned money holds no values, she stopped taking food. Her world turned upside down.

In her desperate attempts, she met various high-ranking officials for help but to no avail. Finally, she threw the notes into the water of a river. Literally, all down the drain.

Yes everybody had to bring their 100+ notes to the bank. Also on the rural area. No one told her apparently.
