I see a couple possibilities, one being that they have sold more paper derivatives of gold than there is in physical gold, and they want to dump it before they get caught...
And the other would be that yes, they are trying to herd the general public into cryptos, because they have had this planned since the mid '50s.
But it could be a bit of both...they were doing these huge derivatives dumps in silver last spring.
