WELCOME TO THE BLOG OF @CHILDRENSCLOTHES
On the eve of the celebration of the international day of the forest this March 21, we wanted to share with you an exuberant beauty of our country, and that we constantly visit his name: "Uverito". Likewise, make a call of conscience to take care of our forests and honor the nature that has given us so much.
Venezuela has a beauty created by man
The "Uverito Forest", which is also known as "the Uverito plantations", is located in the South American region specifically in Venezuela, between the states of Anzoátegui and Monagas. It is considered to be the largest forest in the world planted by the man, with around 600,000 hectares in Pino Caribe plantations.
The idea that became an ambitious project was the forestry engineer and agronomist José Joaquín Cabrera-Malo in alliance with the Corporación Venezolana de Guayana and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, started in 1968, with the pine plantation in the south of the state Monagas
The agronomist had problems with the fact that the force of the winds was ending with the little vegetation layer that covered it and decided to make experiments in the area planting Caribbean pines in the Mesa de Guanipa.
Such has been its growth and development, which in the last 30 years became the forest created by the greatest man in the world, and prevented the Mesa de Guanipa from becoming a great desert.
A LITTLE HISTORY
The Caribbean Pine Forest, (Pinus caribaea var. Hondurensis), known as "the" Pine Forest of Uverito Pines ", is located in the southern sector of the Monagas and Anzoátegui States, and today constitutes a dynamic element for the generation of employment in the depressed economy of the eastern plains of Venezuela; They also have a positive environmental impact, occupying a predominant place in the absorption and transformation into woody components of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), generated by the oil activity in the Orinoco Oil Belt, as well as oxygen generator.
In 1964, the agronomist, José Joaquín Cabrera-Malo (JJ), started the creation of a testing station for pine crops of different species, on land of the Municipality of Uracoa, an old port on the mouth of the river Uracoa, in its union with the channel Mánamo del rio Orinoco, in the Monagas state.
In many conversations held with Dr. J.J, he described several of his experiences during the creation of the Uverito Pine Forest:
"In the year 1966, the first test pines are planted and 20 ha are completed; In view of the good growth of the Caribbean pine, it was decided to carry out a large-scale plantation in the vicinity of the small town known as Uverito in the Monagas state, on the banks of the Uracoa River, whose soils are characterized by having a superficial layer of fine sand of approximately 40 cm. of depth, followed by a layer of moderate clay content ".
"For the commercial scale plantation program, a target of 40,000 ha was initially set, in a 15-year shift, with annual goals of 2,600 ha, according to the requirements of a pulp plant, in project, destined for production of long fiber pulp and the species of Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis, for being the most resistant to the harsh climatic conditions of low rainfall and soils of very poor fertility and low moisture retention capacity ".
"At the end of July 1967, using a very rustic mechanical equipment, designed under the criterion of Minimum Tillage, which allowed to furrow the land without affecting mainly the natural vegetation known as Paja Peluda, which served as a protective barrier against wind and erosion during the first year of planting; also the planter machine, distributed the seedlings with a spacing between rows and between seedlings previously established at 2.70m x 2.70m; That first year the plantation reached 700 hectares on the 1,000 scheduled. In those 700 ha, 868,000 pine trees were planted in quite difficult conditions because it was almost the end of the rainy season. For the following year, it was necessary to reprogram annual goals to compensate for the initial failure. The behavior in the development of the pines in the first stage was satisfactory and therefore the approval was obtained to continue the program ".
Today, after 51 years of the first planting of pines in the savannahs of Uverito and on the 18th of August, 2014, two (2) years after the physical disappearance of Dr. José Joaquín Cabrera-Malo (JJ), planted, between the state and some private companies, including the paper company Manpa, approximately 550,000 ha. of pines, in the "sabanas de Uverito", that can supply part of the national demand of the sawmill industry, as well as the wood requirements, calculated in 1,100,000 m3 / year, of thin wood for the pulp plant and Papel Prensa (PULPACA), already acquired by the Venezuelan state and in the process of being installed, with the capacity to produce 250,000 tons / year of newsprint. However, as a result of the annual fires, the lack of management and protection of the forest and the non-compliance with the planting goals in new areas and the non-repopulation of the exploited areas, the surface of the standing forest has decreased, currently occupying a extension of approximately 335,000 hectares, under the administration of the state, through the company Maderas del Orinoco, which can seriously affect the supply of raw material for this important and strategic national industry.
2011 was declared the "International Year of Forests". Before the frank deterioration and vulnerability of these, we can still celebrate their presence, listening and experiencing them. Witness the dawn And to dawn in a forest, its humidity, the song and sound of the birds, the insects, the direct contact with trees, ferns, and grubs; the enjoyment of the infinity of forms, colors and sounds characteristic of nature, makes us participants in this celebration to simultaneously draw our attention.
Last year the Uverito forest had fires, and this year 2019, it has burned again.
Predictable or not in times of drought, the uncontrollable fire has revealed the vulnerability of Venezuela's forest heritage, due to the absence of firebreaks or the necessary implements to fight the flames, as well as the absence of government provisions, since the devastating action repeat In 2018 the fire consumed nearly 50,000 hectares, according to newspaper reports.
ACTION PLAN TO PROTECT "UVERITO"
Masisa, one of the leading companies in Latin America in the production of furniture panels, made an alliance with the state oil company Pdvsa and Maderas del Orinoco to develop the Plan for the Prevention of Forest Fires 2019 and prevent climatic events that may happen in the area , especially in the period of drought.
"Individually we can not attend to these emergencies, so we must reinforce teamwork to protect our forests against possible eventualities. In 2018 the main cause of the forest fires was intentional and so far this year the trend continues "
Community leaders should be present in the development of the action plan, because it is important that they have training on the prevention of forest fires.
Around 350 square kilometers of forest cover disappear every day in the world. This is mainly due to the conversion of lands for agricultural uses, the unsustainable harvesting of wood, the practices of unsound land management and the construction of urban settlements ".
Forests can be enjoyed without limit of age by means of hikes on marked trails and easy access to get in touch with nature. If you are more daring, make in the company of friends, night walks when camping in our forests in special retreats or organized. By canceling the sense of sight, you can smell, touch, hear and feel the forest improve your personal challenge.
Thanks for @ecoTrain, @tribesteemup and @Earthtribe, for their initiative and we invite nature lovers to make their messages to highlight the importance of forests, you can see the following publication:

Very accurate article. There are not many in the English language out there. The implications of a collapsing economy by the hands of tyranny disrupted the path of hundreds of private and public initiatives in Venezuela to diversify the oil industry in a sustainable way. We really appreciate this collaboration, made to spread the word about what has to be sustained to protect what we love. @childrenclothes, on behalf of the Cabrera-Malo Family, our most sincere gratitude. 🙏.
