Some much to do and so little time. Things get accumulated and soon the weekend has arrived. So what to do? Relax and enjoy or get through the things and duties that we have postponed for these two gracious days that call for rest and travel.
This question (because we're human after all) tests our character. And it brutally tells us what we are built of.
But if we get to this point, we also should ask ourselves this question:
Do we enjoy or have pleasure in what we do?
To some, it's an utterly yes, for others a sad no, and for some a "I don't know."
Regardless of what group you could belong to, there are alternatives we can embrace in order to get through of "what we're supposed to do on weekends" without whining about missing the enjoyable things that we may take part of.
So, I'd like to share mine, which might not be as useful for you as it is for me. The key is in everyone's hands. We have different personalities and skills. It's difficult to come up with something similar to others and have the exact results. And if we do, there's a high possibility that we won't keep up with it.
The first One thing that I do is to picture the coming week. I don't even think about the weekend. Then I set a goal and move into scheming. In other words, I plan and seize a time during the day.
This strategy, method or whatever you want to call it, is just my vehicle. And the days ahead are just the avenues and streets where I drive on. But to give you a clearer idea, I'll describe these two steps:
Take a couple of minutes and write in a sheet of paper (Why a paper and not open text document is explained in the last paragraph) everything you will need to do tomorrow and the following days. Just think about little tasks that help you move toward achieving a goal. Once you finish one, cross it out and move into the other. If you want to avoid overwhelming, do this action one time per day.
Seize the morning. Many of you may be noctambulant - I am one - and like to sleep until late, but there's so much we can accomplish during the mornings. This is just a perception, and like Albert Einstein said, everything is relative. And when we work early in the morning, we have this feeling, as the day goes by, that there are hours left as if the day were longer.
So, It doesn't matter how you do it. If this works you, great. If it doesn't, just take a moment and think how can you be more productive and get the things done. All of us have room for improvement. There's never that thing about roof, only the one we put ourselves on our heads.
Now, why is so important to use paper while you're jotting down your duties. Our brain tends to retain and give more importance to things that are written. It's kind of inevitable not to look at that agenda which is resting next to our computer. Or maybe it is just the fact that having another digital file among a swarm of other documents look so normal that it lacks of importance. Have you seen many people that still use agendas in a technological area, where there are portable notepads and smart phones to mark up the things that we need to do. It's just one those things!
