Because of the many benefits that exist in jackfruit, and can be a promising center if cultivated properly, now we will discuss about how to transplant jackfruit tree in jackfruit tree cultivation.
How to Plant a Jackfruit Tree?
One of the things usually done by farmers to improve the quality of fruit or multiply the plant is by way of grafting. Grafting is a way to breed plants by planting stems or branches rooted first before being cut to be planted elsewhere.
Besides aiming to multiply the plant, excess grafting is able to produce the fruit form until the same taste with its parent, can produce the fruit quickly and also the resulting tree is also not too high.
Preparation Before Grafting
Before doing the transplant process there are several things that we should consider, namely:
The types of plants that can be grafted are open seeded plants (dikotil), such as orange trees, mango, guava, jackfruit, durian, starfruit, etc.
- Make sure plants are free from pests and diseases
- The parent tree must be a healthy, strong tree and also produce good quality fruit
- Stems or branches should not be too old or young usually one year old.
- Should transplantation done at the beginning of the rainy season, it is intended to ease maintenance, especially in terms of watering. If grafting during the dry season should be watered 1-2 times a day.
How to Transfer a Jackfruit Tree
The steps that must be done at the time of grafting is as follows:
1.Preparing Tools and Materials:
- Knife
- Scissor
- Manure / compost
- soil
- Rope raffia
- Transparent plastic or coconut husk.
2.Selection of Parent Tree
Selected parent tree must be a healthy, strong tree and also produce good quality fruit. The parent tree should have a straight-shaped stem (vertical) and a length between 50-120 cm and a diameter of at least 3 cm.
3.Implementation of the Transplant
It is better to transplant done at the beginning of the rainy season in addition to relieve maintenance, especially in terms of watering, it is also done so that the roots produced can grow well.
How to Transplant:
- After the branches / branches have been selected, peel / cover the branches with a blade 5 - 10 cm long.
- Perform a circular rod on the skin of the stem to clean the layer of cambium / mucilage that is still attached to really clean.
- The scraped stems are left until the sap that is still attached can dry out perfectly and the resulting wound stops mucus. In general for plants that have a lot of sap as jackfruit tree takes 2-3 weeks, while for plants that do not gummy usually only takes 2-4 days.
- Furthermore, if the cambium layer is completely clean and dry, wrap or coat the section with soil mixed with manure (compost) that has been moistened.
- Wrap the incision that has been wrapped with transparent plastic / coconut husk.
- Then tie the bandage by using raffia ropes on the top and bottom ends. Keep at the time of binding should not be too tight or too loose.
- When wrapped with transparent plastic, gently hose the plastic as a way to enter water and also as air circulation.
4.Care and Maintenance
Once the transplantation process has been completed, treat the graft daily to keep it moist, do regular watering both morning and evening especially if it is not raining. When the rainy season, do watering sufficiently in accordance with the situation and conditions.
Under normal conditions, the roots of the graft will begin to appear and grow at the age of transplantation of approximately one month. If root growth is good enough, this is where the grafts can already be cut. Pre-cut graft is transferred in pollybag until it is strong and fertile until the grafts are ready to be transported to the planting plantation.
Planting
If it is confirmed that the jackfruit tree is really strong, move the tree to the garden after the ground in the planting hole began to decline. Instead, for water needs can be filled naturally, planting is better done at the beginning of the rainy season.
That's how to transplant the Jackfruit Tree. Hope can help and useful. Thank you so much for your visit.
