The need to rehabilitate ex-mining land

Mining is a source of income for both personal and state income. However, mining activities cause changes in the landscape and cause forest damage. As a result, there was a change for the worse. This can be seen in the former mining land that tends to be arid, unproductive and prone to disasters.
Forests that were originally rich in flora and fauna species, eventually became critical land or were only planted with monoculture species. There needs to be serious attention for mining companies and the government along with the community to make post-mining land productive and sustainable land.
The problem of ex-mining land is a problem that will never stop to be discussed. a dilemma between the environmental damage caused by the economic value of mining often results in overcoming former mining land to be abandoned.
The big thing that always becomes a major problem when we talk about a mine site is the environmental damage that occurs after mining activities are completed. Many cases occur where a former mine site / area is left and not managed properly until it has a dangerous and detrimental impact, not only on the environment but also on the safety of the human soul.
If damage to ex-mining land is not handled properly, it will certainly have a bad impact on the surrounding community and environmental sustainability or more broadly is the destruction of natural resources on this earth.

Need Strong Synergy

Damage to ex-mining of the mine must be dealt with in a comprehensive and integrated manner. All kits can take roles according to their respective portions. We must be willing to be responsible for any consequences caused by mining. do not reach we want to enjoy economically but do not want to be responsible.
As the saying goes "shoulder tightens shoulders." In the case of mining there are also consequences that must be borne. Forest land that has been mined must be endeavored to restore its function (restoration) so that it has sustainable and sustainable benefits.
With the aim to repair and restore land and vegetation that has been damaged so that it can function optimally in accordance with its designation.
After mining activities end, post-mining land must be rehabilitated to minimize the effects of environmental damage caused.
In this case, there needs to be strong synergy between stakeholders from both government companies and the community. Therefore, all parties related to land rehabilitation must have deeper knowledge about the ins and outs. Efforts should be made to increase knowledge about reclamation and rehabilitation techniques of ex-mining land. This has become a necessity for the parties involved in this matter.

1. Mining Company
The company must have a basic knowledge of the activities / stages of mining operations. This was done to reduce the environmental damage caused by mining and facilitate further land rehabilitation activities. All first procedures must be carried out properly from the exploration stage to exploitation and after mining is complete. this is the responsibility of the company.
The company must be willing to handle rehabilitation starting from the handling and management of top soil, land preparation techniques, handling erosion and sedimentation, seed propagation, seeding and planting and crop maintenance. Plant evaluation and monitoring are also discussed in detail and detail. It is also recommended to accelerate rehabilitation with modern techniques such as bio-engineering, mycorrhizal, and silviculture.

2. Government
The role of the government as a regulator must be careful and always pay attention to the rules that will be implemented in the field. The government must also control its implementation. don't just get a good report so don't look into the mining area. If there is a violation, it must be dealt with firmly according to the rules. If violations are related to crimes, of course they must be prosecuted in court.

3. Involve the surrounding community
rehabilitation will work well if involving the surrounding comunity· This is intended to strengthen community efforts.
The inclusion of surrounding communities in the mining area determines the success of rehabilitation efforts in the long term. Therefore, increasing understanding of ways of doing business that is in line with regional potentials and culture both individually, in groups or in cooperative settings needs to be improved through training and real practice in the field.
They can be invited to work together to manage the results of the processing of ex-mining land planted with productive plants and have economic value. this will further strengthen synergies in transforming ex-mining land into fertile and productive land again.

You raise a really important issue @rokhani - thank you. We focus so much on preserving, and tend to easily "give up" on that which we perceive as already lost. In the 'too hard' basket. But yes, successful land rehabilitation IS possible and arguably one of the 3 or 4 biggest environmental priorities, after stewardship of what we have left and better usage of natural resources.

Thanks for a good post.
