A meeting of Eco-Volunteers and EcoDesigners

Tubuou Laura is Public Relations Officer of The Greens and she is putting on an EcoTextile Necklace.

The meeting of 15 environmental Volunteers and EcoDesigners started at 12:30pm with a word of prayer from Amratu a trainee at The Greens’ Computer Institute.
This was followed by minutes of last meeting from Scholastica and then we continued with matters arising from the minutes. All the environmental warriors were evaluated based on the tasks assigned to them during the previous week.
The Assistant Director of Projects and Programs, Lima Charlotte gave a report of her weekly activities and was congratulated by the Executive Director of The Greens.

This was followed by a chronological follow up of the trainees’ upcycling assignments with Ethel topping the chart for completing all her weekly assignments. The other trainees who did not complete their textile upcycling tasks complained about insufficient machines to work in the hub
It was proposed that a Ethel’s home machine be brought to the workshop to add to the number of machines available for fashion designing and textile recycling as well as agreed that a machine use schedule (timetable) for textile upcycling be created for the trainees so as to avoid congestion or gready use of machines by one person.

These products were weighed and their dimensions and weight registered so that we can keep track of the amount of textile waste we are recycling.

The EcoDesigns Fashion Show was also deliberated upon and agreed to hold on Saturday the 12th of May 2018 at 03:00PM at The Greens Head office.

To this effect, we all agreed to do a green cocktail party (vegetable salads and fruit salads) for the event as well as purchase only local drinks such as corn beer, palm wine and Folere during the event.
The entire team also resolved to purchase a new organizational uniform which will be launched on the day of the EcoDesigns Fashion Show.

The EcoDesigns Fashion Show

The EcoDesigns Fashion Show is a fashion show for The Greens to showcase her top class dresses designs from EcoDesigns, showcase their work in the transformation of textile trash to textile treasures as well as show case and educate the public on the products and services that EcoDesigns offer.

Earth Day 2018

Away from EcoDesigns Fashion Show, the team also evaluated and made proposals for the smooth functioning of The Greens’ computers as well as developed and planned their Earth Week Activities.
In a bid to commemorate Earth Day 2018 under the theme “End plastic pollution”, the team decided to initiate an #EndPlasticPollution Campaign with the principal objectives of the Campaign being to;

Educate and engage more than 1,000 people of the North West Region through The Greens’ Green Radio Program with Abakwa FM 99.0 on Saturday 14th, 21st and 28th of April 2018 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM.
Disseminate 100 messages about plastic pollution, plastics and Earth Day on our website and social networking channels.
Inspire church leaders to celebrate creation during church service, as well as sensitize Christians, Muslims and Baha’is to celebrate creation (Earth) and take action to protect God’s creation (Mother Earth).
Print and disseminate 5000 flyers and 100 posters about plastic pollution and plastic recycling.
Commence a plastic containers drive in 07 locations of Bamenda, wherein we shall install bins for plastic containers.
Educate and engage 20 young people about plastic pollution and what they can do to transform plastic waste into plastic treasure.
