Always Be Learnin'

With my morning coffee - Cool Japanese art on the mug

Today it's back to school for me. No, I'm not returning to college - not a physical location, but these days, the Internet is one big university.

With so much knowledge and information available for free these days, there's almost no excuse not to learn something new on a weekly basis. This is what I try to do. I try to live a life of continuous learning.

The more you know, the more you know how much you don't know!

You also realise how much you can never know. If you're the type that likes to know, then this knowledge is incredibly depressing haha. Oh well.

Anyway, today I am learning to use DaVinci Resolve 15 properly. I can already do a fair bit of colour correction and grading in it, but the software is so powerful that I've only scratched about 10% of the surface.

I've decided to eventually move to DR for my video work so it makes sense to learn the software properly. One huge benefit of DR over Final Cut Pro X (which is my favourite editing app), is it's free! There is a highly professional version that isn't free, but I don't need that level of kit.

I'm mainly a visual learner, so my DR education consists of tutorial videos that I'm watching and following along. Already I've picked up a few new tricks.

I shall try editing my next DTube video entirely in Resolve just to see. It will no doubt take a little longer to do than in my usual iMovie/Final Cut, but as time goes on, I shall get more proficient.

Another benefit of moving to DR, apart from the free price, is that it's cross-platform. The way it is now, I'm married to the Apple ecosystem. I want to be able to move to Windows or even Linux and still be able to edit my videos the same way. DR will give me this freedom.

What new thing are you learning today?

Funny, I was thinking about DR just this week. Except when I try to learn I just dozz off! I really don't like editing, but I know I have to learn at some point. Just yesterday @hungryhustle encouraged me to try out Filmora, I have been meaning to get on it too, just been abit held up. Filmora seems a bit more fun and user friendly, at least for the ladies :D

Never heard of Filmora :) .. but I may check it out.
Yeah I know what you mean about DR. I'm an experienced editor, and it bores even me :)

Cool, I didn't know it was free. Did you ever try Premiere or After Effects?

I tried Premiere for 10 minutes and lost the will to live. Too powerful it made me want to eat my own hand haha.

hahahah I hear ya. I feel every time I use them I have to re-learn everything I did last time, somehow the way to do things do not stick in my brain. But yeah I use like 1% of it too

Yes indeed.

I have a set goal to achieve something new every day. Let me give you a sneak peek into my day’s achievement - I was able to upgrade my windows to windows 10 for free while yesterday I started programming. Very cool 😎

How are you finding Python? It’s a great choice
